XPS 13 - Intel Iris 540 the same performance as Intel HD 620?

$

I had purchased a Dell XPS 13 9350 with the Intel Iris 540 in March 2016 (core i7, 256GB, 8GB DDR3). After a few rounds of online technical support, it was sent to the repair depot twice to fix a static/buzzing noise made by the speakers.  On the second trip to the repair depot the laptop was determined to be "beyond economical repair" due to a motherboard issue.

Dell notified me that I would be getting a new XPS 13.  When I asked whether or not I would receive an Intel Iris 540 in the laptop, the systems exchange analyst stated:

"We have checked and found that Intel IRIS 540 is equal to intel HD graphics which we are offering. Both deliver same performance."

On the Dell website, it's stated that the New XPS 13s would have the Intel HD Graphics 620 chip. I went online and found a few graphics comparison websites that state the IRIS 540 is better performing chip but I'm unsure.

Can someone on the forum confirm the system exchange analysts claim that the performance is equal and give advice whether or not I should accept the exchange?

I appreciate any and all assistance.

*edit: I apologize, I read the forum rules and took out the Dell employee's name. Also, clarified system in title.

"Dell laptop hinge policy" doesn't make any sense

From the "Dell laptop hinge policy" announcement at the top of this post:
Because a hinge is under the "Normal wear and tear" policy, it is not covered by the default limited hardware warranty.It would be covered under the additional "Accidental Damage/Complete Care" warranty. If you did not purchase the additional "Accidental Damage/Complete Care" warranty, you will need to pay for the repair using our "Support Service for Extended Warranties" offering.
Further down, we have:
Q: I bought the Accidental Damage/Complete Care warranty. Dell should fix these hinges!
A: Hinges are not covered in the Accidental Damage/Complete Care warranty
Am I crazy?

Very curious keyboard issues.

A while back, the keyboard on my N7110 started going nuts. I had replaced the original with a backlit one from China years ago. I removed the keyboard and it had the distinct smell of coffee. Turns out my wife spilled some on it a while back, and never said anything.

I attempted to clean the keyboard as best I could, but got no results. The same characters, "ruweq", would spam as soon as I started to close the hinge on the ribbon. Then a "43poi" might or might not show up, followed by a steady stream of "i"s.

Anyway, I ordered the same keyboard, and everything was fine. New keyboard worked for a few weeks, then suddenly, the same issues. I grilled the wife, but she swears she hasn't spilled anything. It seems the problem is now with the board. I tried cleaning the connection with alcohol, but no dice.

Here's where things start getting interesting.

For no reason at all, I dug up the old, coffee spilled keyboard and plugged it in. It worked! ...Well, it worked for about 5 minutes, then it started going nuts again. Plugged in the new one, same deal. So now, neither of them work.

Any advice on how I might fix this? Any idea why the old one would suddenly work for a few minutes? Any help at all would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I have a latitude 7275 with Windows 10 64bit.  I just downloaded DCPM from the support page for my machine and it will not install.  The file I downloaded is System-Utilities_Application_4T7MN_WN32_2.1.1.  The support page shows this is the correct version for my machine and OS.  The install instructions says the this file will install on 32 bit or 64 bit OS.  However, when I run the file, I get the error that the installation package is not compatible with 64bit OS.

I cannot seem to locate a 64bit installation file.  How do I get this to install?

It won't turn on with battery or with it being plug in. The service tag is 7GNTK01. All i know is the guy i got it from told me he was typing on it and it shut off and wouldn't turn back on. Hope someone can help i am lost now.

Can I delete the OEM and Recovery Hard Drive Partitions?

Hi,

I have an AlienWare 17 R2 laptop that I bought from Dell about 1-1/2 years ago.  It came with Windows 7 Professional pre-installed.  The hard drive has the following three primary partitions:

 1. OEM Partition 39 MB
 2. Recovery 10.20 GB
 3. OS (C:) - 921.28 GB <= Windows 7 is installed on this partition

I would like to setup this computer for a multi-boot configuration that would give me the following OS choices:

 1. Windows 7 (my existing installation)
 2. Windows 10
 3. Windows XP

I plan on using BootIT Bare Metal by Terabyte unlimited to help me create my multi-boot configuration.  I would like for my each of my three Windows versions to be on a dedicated primary partition, and I would like to keep my number of primary partitions to the typical PC/Windows limit of four.  To make this possible, I would like to delete the OEM partition and the Recovery Partition.

Can anyone tell me, considering I have a standard "Dell" or "Alienware" configuration, can I simply delete these partitions with no adverse side effects?  Or will deleting either of these break my Windows 7 installation?

Thanks in advance,
Paul

How to access the boot order menu of the Inspiron 13-5368

I have a Linux install on a USB stick and would like to test it on my Inspiron 13-5368. I really don't want to mess around with changing any UEFI settings. I just want to change the boot order for a one time boot up. I know F2 gets me into the system setup. Would F12 or some other key present me with the boot order?

It shouldn't be this difficult!!!

I just purchased the 3650 with the hopes of cloning existing hard drive and replacing with a SSD.  Accomplished cloning, took out old hard drive, installed new SSD...won't boot!  Have changed settings in boot options as described in several posts to no avail.  NO BOOTABLE DISC FOUND.  Put the old hard drive back in and it boots perfectly.  Followed instructions for cloning to a T.  Help!

Dell xps 13 (2016) stuck in battery saving mode

Using new laptop last night an the battery went below 20% and battery saving mode was triggered.  Threw it on the charger and continued using it as normal. This morning I went to use it on its fully charged battery and saw it was in power saving mode still.  Try to turn battery saving mode off through the battery icon on the start bar but it will not turn off. Going into battery saving mode settings and unchecking the check box that says stay in battery saving mode until next charge also will not take it out of battery saving mode. Tried restarting laptop while on battery, while plugged in, charging to 100% and restarting both on battery and plugged in, no change.  All drivers including bios have been updated a few days ago.  Any suggestions?

Thank you

I have an Inspiron 15 3000 series on which the touchpad is disabled.  I am trying to enable the touchpad but when I turn it *on* using the touchpad settings dialog clicking *save* to apply the new setting causes the switch to flip back to *off*.  It is massively frustrating.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Alienware M14X R2 reading 150W AC adapter as 130W

Hi all,

I have an old M14X R2 (Bios revision A09) that has a stock Dell 150 Watt power supply/adapter. For some reason a while back, the computer stopped reading the adapter as 150 watt and now displays it as 130 watt.

I have tried to update the Bios from A09 to A13, but the battery requires at least 10% charge. This is an issue because the battery displays 94% health and 0% charge, but the icon on the tray of Windows 7 displays "Plugged in, not charging."

I've contacted support a couple of times regarding the battery  itself, but I think that the adapter is the issue.

If anyone could help me figure out why the laptop is reading the 150 watt as a 130 watt, that'd be great. Thanks all!

DELL XPS 9550 touchpad was out of place due to battery bulge

Hi Guys,

Just got the battery replaced for my XPS 9550, which i had bought less than a year ago.

The touchpad was not working( the clicks were not working as the battery was pushing the touchpad out of its place)

After 10 days of back and forth , finally got it fixed, the new battery did the trick. The service guy was shocked to see that the battery was so swollen and told me i was lucky it did not explode or something.

Did anyone else have similar experience?

Any idea what is the reason for this

1)Bad battery?

2)Power management bug that is making the battery swollen due to software issues?

How do i avoid it happening the same to the new battery.

Thanks

Hi All,

I've been using inspirion 3158 for last 8 months, but for the past 3 months i've been experiencing wifi issues.

The issues related to very slow speed or constant break in wifi speed.

As you can see in the above screenshot the wifi speed has been break regularly at constant time. Though it's not look like it's bad, when downloading or viewing videos, i can experience the slowness very much.

When i looked into the event viewer, i can see that there are two errors which i can see everytime when system boot.

I've tried clearing the TPM, but the issue still exists.
I've been contacting dell service center and they replaced my motherboard and reinstall windows, but after one or two weeks the issue came back.
when i install fresh copy of windows,  the issue will gone for two weeks then it came back.
I don't know how to proceed further, as the dell support doesn't have any clue about this.
Can someone please help me?

Thanks,

Dell XPS 12 9Q33 Touchpad problems/not working

So basically everything was working great running Windows 10, then all of a sudden my touchpad stopped responding while I was using the laptop. I tried re-installing many drivers but to no avail was the problem solved. I then downgraded back to Windows 8 although this didn't seem to do anything. I can't restore the laptop with the recovery partitions or software as this somehow became corrupted during the downgrade to Windows 8. The touchpad still works in the BIOS diagnostics so I'm a bit stumped as to why I can't get it working, maybe I need a certain driver?

I also tried installing Windows 7 and noticed that the touchpad started working again!! but as soon as I'm on Windows 8 or 10, I cant get it to work. I cannot use the laptop on Windows 7 as there is no suitable driver for the touchscreen, hence rendering it as just a normal screen without touch functionality.

If anyone could link me to drivers or any recovery media files which could help resolve this issue it would be much appreciated. I'll take any help at the moment, I just hope I can get the laptop working properly again.

Dell Xps 12 9Q33 Touchpad issues/not working

So my laptop was running Windows 10, everything was working and then all of a sudden I went to use the touchpad and nothing happened. I downgraded the PC back to Windows 8.1 but it was still not working. I then tried using the recovery media/restore but found out that this had been corrupted when I downgraded back to Windows 8.1.

Please note the touchpad still works in the BIOS diagnostics. I have tried installing new drivers but still couldn't fix the problem. Now here is what has me stumped... The touchpad works when the laptop is running Windows 7, but not when it is running Win 8 or 10.

Windows 7 is not suitable for this laptop as there are driver incompatibility issues eg the touchscreen won't work because I couldn't find the driver for it.

If anyone has any recovery image or driver links it would be much appreciated.

Latitude E5570 - Coil Whine Noise & Others

$

A couple of weeks ago I purchased a Latitude E5570(the best I could find from this series) and the very next day I found the following problems:
- A coil whine noise was there almost all the time(very annoying, especially for a laptop produced in 2016);
- I tired to downgrade from windows 10 to windows 7( I have a software from Siemens that requires Windows 7); even though Dell is saying that this computer should work also on windows 7 and they have drivers on DVD that came with the computer and also on their website I wasn't able to install all hardware components; I was not able to find drivers for everything inside the computer, and during the installation of certain drivers Windows crashed a few times; after a couple of days spent of trying to make windows 7 work I just gave up and installed windows 10 back;
- Finally I realized the battery was damaged; Dell's battery test showed that everything is fine, but unfortunately I wasn't able to get more that 90 minutes of autonomy without having to recharge the battery;

So, I sent the laptop back and asked Dell for a replacement. Yesterday I received the new one.....and the show goes on:
- The coil whine noise is still there, but even louder and almost permanent at this one;
- I don't have the guts to make the downgrade from windows 10 to 7 any more;
- I also order an E-Port replicator docking station and tried to connect an LG ultra-wide monitor(2560x1080). The funny thing is that if I'm connecting the monitor directly to laptop's the HDMI port I can select from windows/graphics control the highest (native) resolution of the monitor(2560x1080), but when I'm connection the monitor to the docking station at DVI port I cannot get more than the 1920x1080. What the hack Dell???

So that being said ... I am not a very satisfied customer right now. Now, I'm asking Dell's support, what should I do..send everything back, get my money back and go with a different brand? Should I ask for laptop number 3 in 2 and a half weeks from getting the first on?
