Issues with WD15 on Dell Precision 5510 if Cisco VPN is installed

Hello,

After much troubleshooting, I discovered an issue when using the WD15 docking station with a Dell Precision 5510 laptop if the Cisco Systems VPN Client 64-bit software is installed and especially if Symantec Endpoint Protection exists on the laptop together with Cisco VPN (Symantec Endpoint Protection can manage the enabling and disabling of a wired ethernet connection).

To give some background, I provide I.T. support for a company that has deployed Dell laptops to its staff for many years.  In our environment, our Dell laptops run Windows 7 Pro 64-bit.  In this environment in the past, we've never had any issues using the Cisco Systems VPN Client with any Dell laptop that either has a built-in ethernet port or a USB ethernet dongle (including the Dell Precision 5510 when used with its included USB-C ethernet dongle).  But I've discovered ethernet connectivity problems from the WD15's wired ethernet connection when used with a Dell 5510 when Cisco VPN is installed (regardless of whether or not a VPN connection is active).

With the WD15 connected to the 5510 and with a wired network connection attached to the WD15, if Cisco VPN is installed and if Symantec Endpoint Protection is not installed, when after starting up Windows 7 and then logging into Windows, sometimes within the first few minutes, the wired ethernet connection will then drop connection (an exclamation mark will appear over the wired network icon on the taskbar of Windows).  If the WD15 is then disconnected from the 5510 and then reconnected to it, wired network connectivity will be restored, and it won't lose connectivity throughout that session of Windows.

If Cisco VPN and Symantec Endpoint Protection are both installed on the 5510, more problems occur.  The same issues of losing wired network connectivity will occur within this setup.  Unplugging the WD15 from the 5510 and then plugging it back in will restore wired network connectivity, but within minutes, wired network connectivity will be lost once again.  Every time that the WD15 is disconnected and reconnected, this cycle will continue to occur (restored wired network connectivity, then lost wired connectivity within minutes).  Furthermore, when wired connectivity is lost, if the WD15 is left connected to the 5510, then within minutes, other issues can occur.  Functionality of devices connected to the USB ports of the WD15 will then begin to no longer function.  Also, attempting to put the 5510 into sleep mode can result in long delays until it goes to sleep (as long as the WD15 is still connected to the 5510).  Again, disconnecting and reconnecting the WD15 will fix all of this, but the problems will cycle once again when wired network connectivity is lost.

I've tried using two different versions of Cisco Systems VPN Client 64-bit (5.0.07.0290 and 5.0.07.0440), and the same problems occur regardless of which version of Cisco VPN is installed.  I've also tried 5510 BIOS updates, Thunderbolt firmware updates, Thunderbolt controller driver updates, and other WD15-related driver updates including the Realtek USB GBE ethernet controller drivers, Intel HD graphics drivers and RealTek USB audio drivers.  After all of these updates, the same exact problems occur as long as Cisco VPN is installed.

FYI, the Cisco VPN software includes a component in the "Networks" section of the Device Manager called "Cisco Systems VPN Adapter for 64-bit Windows."  This component interacts with the wired ethernet drivers and wifi drivers.

After all the testing and troubleshooting, I can only conclude that the WD15 has a problem when Cisco VPN is installed.  Unfortunately, this is a critical issue for us because we've been deploying Dell Precision 5510s, and anyone that uses the WD15 with the 5510 will run into the problems I've described.

If anyone from Dell is monitoring this, if there's any chance that you can look into this issue and find a resolution to this, it would be greatly appreciated.  Again, this issue has never come up with any other Dell laptop over the years that we've deployed (regardless of whether the laptop has its own built-in ethernet port, whether it uses a USB ethernet dongle, or whether the laptop uses an ethernet port on another docking station such as the Dell D3000 SuperSpeed USB 3.0 docking station or the Dell E-Port Replicator PRO2X docking station).

Thank you.

Slow audio when using Miracast

I bought an Inspirion 5555 because it has WIDI.

I'm using Miracast to screen mirror my desktop to the TV.

The video looks fine on the TV, but the audio is slow, i.e. the characters talk in low pitch. Women sound like men (but there is no sync issue with the video).

I re-installed all the drivers associated with the service tag of my laptop, updated the BIOS and my OS (Win10, fully updated).

What can be done to solve this? This makes the screen mirroring feature unusable.

Thanks

Dell E6530 won't turn on and the light on the charger shuts off when plugged into laptop

Today the battery was getting low so I plugged in the laptop. As soon as I did that it shut off. I can't get it to turn back on, no lights come on and it doesn't even try to turn on. I noticed that when I plug the charger into the laptop the green light on my charger shuts off. If I unplug the charger from the wall and wait a few seconds then plug it back in the green light will come back on, but then turn off as soon as I plug it into my laptop. I've tried a known good charger on my laptop, same thing happens to it. I also tried my charger on a known good laptop and my charger works. I tried removing my battery and using only electrical power, still nothing. The charger voltages are all fine, the wall voltages are all fine, it's something with the laptop itself. Any input?

Thanks,

Wayne.

Here are my Questions:

When I press the power button I hear a click (towards front right of laptop in the middle of the NFC tag symbol and fingerprint scanner thingy).  Is that normal?

It appears this unit is limited to 1 DIMM.  Can I install a 16Gb DIMM?

I noticed the laptop has Windows 10 Enterprise on it (activated).  If I go onto Dell website I see the assembly specs show it came with Windows 10 Pro.  Can I download the Windows 10 Pro restore .ISO that is available on the "Drivers and downloads" tab?  Will it activate?

It appears this device supportsc cellular WWAN.  I don't see a WWAN card installed.  Is that something get from dell or T-mobile (or any other carrier)?

The device currently had an 500Gb mechanical hard drive installed.  Can i install any SATA SSD?  If I elect for the M.2 SSD version what size do I purchase (i see there are 3 sizes)?

Thank you

My Platonics Voyager Headset wont be discovered by XPS 15 9550

I have a platronics voyager headset that i normally use with my android cell phone and it functioning properly. When i tried to connect it to my XPS 15 9550 laptop having windows 10 OS it was not detected. I tried updating the driver and and even uninstalled and installed the driver to no result. Is the dell laptop setup to not detect third party headset like that of platronics or it my system faulty? I went to official platronics site and they say "Make sure your computer's Bluetooth chip supports the Headset or Handsfree Bluetooth profile (if your computer has a data-only Bluetooth profile, you cannot pair your headset to it)." But, i cannot find that is the case as in service list i can see bluetooth handsfree service running which should not happen if this laptop was not set to listen to headset. Please help.

DELL Laptop Hinge Polciy

I bought my Inspiron 15 5000 online from the Dell and I was quite happy with it. I seldom use my laptop until quite recently in the past couple of weeks or so. My concern right now is the hinge of my Dell. Last night when I close it, I heard a clacking sound. Later I found this morning that it starting to make a gap around the hinge plastic component.  I read the Dell's hinge policy.

My question is, where should we go from there? I am around Melbourne, VIC and I don't know where to find help to fix it and how much would it cost.

XPS 13 Coil Whine - Dell Support Refusing to Help

$

I have a 3 month old XPS 13 9530 i7 512gb 16GB Windows 10 Model.

Over the last few weeks I have noticed a pretty loud (audible at over 10 feet away) electrical buzzing noise coming from the machine. The noise is worse if I scroll with the touchscreen or trackpad.

After speaking to Dell customer service, I have been informed by DELL that this is known issue (yep lots of issues documented on the web) but apparently this is completely software related (don't believe that either) and now they are refusing to help me unless I pay a fee for support technical support (I only have a standard warranty)

Firstly, I don't think this is just down to software. But am I the only person who thinks this is just unacceptable? I paid £1400 for this machine recently and now I have to use a pair of headphones to block out the loud noise.

I understand that software support is not included in the standard warranty but surely as this is a known problem I should not be subject to a further charge?

I'm starting to feel like I have been cheated...

Any help or advice would me much appreciated.

Dell XPS L702x (Warning - Adapter 130W)

Hey,

I purchased a new adapter for my Dell XPS L702x , the originele was 150W. But i couldnt find it and a 130W adapter was recommended , also by Dell. So i bought this one and i am getting an warning when using it. When i just continue everything seems to work just fine. However i need to know if i can keep using it, or could this damage my laptop somehow ?

This is the warning:

"WARNING: A 130w power adapter has been detected, which is less than the recommended 150w adapter originally shipped. The battery may not charge. The system will adjust the performance to match the power available. Please connect a Dell 150w AC adapter or greater for best performance."

When you continue to windows this shows up:

"130w AC power adapter has been determined. Your system will operate slower and battery will not charge. This problem might be solved by: - ensure the plug is inserted completely for best system operation".

Would love to have some feedback.

Thanks

Wil

We have gotten  new dells e5570 with win 10 and have to make then win 7 enterprise so we can use bit locker, but have had a hard time to get it to install after hours with dell no real answers, I found if you clear the tpm in bios and set to legacy then put on tpm 1.2 it will install each time. tpm 2.0 will not work with win 7 enterprise.
