Repeating episodes of permanent battery failure

0
0

I have a Dell Inspiron 13-7368 which fell off a chair a few weeks ago. When I opened it again, it was refusing to charge and displaying a flashing orange light that indicated permanent battery failure. However, when I ran diagnostics and rebooted, the flashing light disappeared and it charged just fine. Diagnostics showed that there wasn't a problem with either the battery or the charger.

A week later, I saw the flashing light and got the permanent battery failure notice again. I ran diagnostics and rebooted again, and the problem seemed to fix itself. Diagnostics again indicated no issues.

Is this going to be a periodic occurrence? My battery has fortunately been close to full every time this has happened, but I'm worried that this will occur when I don't have enough juice and it will refuse to charge again. Any insights or suggestions?

Hi there,

I've been trying to install Windows 10 Enterprise on a XPS 13 9350. I can get the USB to boot all the way to the point to choose what hard drive to install Windows but once I reach the area to select he hard drive it's nowhere to be found. Secure Boot is Off. I've tried this with 8.1 and 10 - would prefer 10.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Dell Inspiron 1545 Windows 10 Pro 64 bit upgrade

Hi Thanks for reply. My friends Inspiron 1545 came pre-loaded with Vista Home Premium 32 bit. He bought the activation key from Sofoway in Banbury. They sent a link to Microsoft to download Windows 7 Pro 64 bit., which I did for him, as he’s not computer literate. I clean installed Windows7 Pro and then did the free upgrade to Windows10 Pro 64 bit. His computer was running fine. He came to pick it up from my place. I showed him it running Windows 10 and he was happy. Then about ten days later he called me and told me that he’s installed his mcAfee unlimited Internet Security, which he’d purchased from PcWorld. He got the activation key card, went home and went on McAfee, downloaded the software and so he tells me, after it activated, he got a message from McAfee telling him all his drivers were either out of date or weren’t installed. He called them and they passed him to some company on the phone that he doesn’t remember the name of and they offered to update and install any missing drivers for 80 pounds sterling and they requested him to activate Remote Assistant, which he did so they could take over his laptop and configure the drivers and missing drivers. He gave them his, either Debit card, or Credit card details and they took the 80 pounds from his bank account. He tells me that his laptop is running fine now, but it was running fine when I did the Windows 7 installation and the Windows 10 free upgrade, so I don’t understand why his laptop had slowed down so drastically. Also the company, whoever they are, told him that in six months he would need to make another payment of 80 pounds to update the drivers again. I smell something fishy, as I’m no novice when it comes to computers, but try explaining to someone who doesn’t understand computers and believes some company on the end of the phone that is milking money from him. A computer tech that works near my home in a computer repair shop told me that McAfee would not know just by you downloading and installing their software that your computer was running slowly and that they would never pass you over the telephone to any other company. Your thoughts would be much appreciated on this matter.

                        Thanks

Dell E7440 memory issue

Hi,

I upgraded 6 months ago my Latitude E7440 with new memory :

- 2 of those =>

And here my problems start ..

Sometimes, my PC won't boot. It just show a blank power led and nothing appear on the screen and then after 10 to 15 seconds the blank power led shut light off.

And the only way to solve this problem is to unplug the battery on the motherboard to clear the BIOS.

Only then, when i plug the power source the laptop boot automatically one time and show nothing on screen, then reboot and show nothing, reboot again and i get access to the bios and everything ...

It's very strange because sometimes it appears randomly and sometimes it appears exactly every seven days (3 times in a row !).

Of course I tested the memory and I got no error.

Inspiron 5759: Failed BIOS Update, No UEFI, No Dell Recovery

I'm new to UEFI and after a failed BIOS update, I removed and completely reformatted the HDD on another machine, wiping out the UEFI partition. So now I cannot load Dell Recovery to re-flash/repair the BIOS.

I have completed all the steps for notebook computers as suggested on Dell Support here: BIOS Recovery 2 options on a Dell PC or Tablet (http://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/4/SLN300716/en)

I formatted a bootable external USB key with a copy of the BIOS package properly renamed as instructed. However, when I use the CTRL + Esc key combination and power up the computer, the system does not boot to Dell Recovery, but instead the power LED flashes a 3,3 code (3 amber flashes, 3 white flashes) which indicates "Recovery Image Not Found" according to the Dell Knowledge Base. I presume this code is given because it cannot find the Dell Recovery application since it (as well as the entire UEFI partition) is now gone after I reformatted the HDD.

So, I know what the problem is, I just don't know what to do at this point to fix it.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Cannot find connector for backlit keyboard - Inspiron 15 3558

Hello all!

Thanks in advance for the help, as I have done my research but I can't seem to solve my problem.

So, I purchased a Dell Inspiron 15 3000 Series (actual model is I3558-0954BLK). The model did not come with a backlit keyboard. Should have checked ahead :)

I found that apparently the 3558 model supports backlit keyboards, therefore I purchased a compatible keyboard that should fit models 3551 and 3558.

When I followed the proper procedures to detach the original keyboard from my laptop, I could not find a slot for the "extra" connector that the backlit keyboard carries. After scratching my head for a while and doing some research online, I resolved to ask for your assistance. Here's a picture of what my laptop looks like without a keyboard. Could anyone be so kind as to point out where do I plug the other connector or help me understand why the laptop doesn't carry one? :)

Thanks!!!

Carmine

PS: In the picture, the green arrows I added show the standard keyboard connector & slot. The red arrow I added shows the extra backlit keyboard connector.

Hard drive not recognized after BIOS update - Inspiron 7559

The BIOS automatically updated and now it no longer recognizes my secondary hard drive in the laptop. Other than this, the laptop is functioning fine.

Seagate ST500LM030 500GB is not recognized by Dell Latitude D620

I cloned the 80GB original hard drive to a new Seagate 500GB hard drive using Macrium Reflect.  When I installed the new drive in the drive bay it would not boot up, giving the message that no hard drive is detected.  Went into setup and changed ATA mode to AHCI - no help, drive still not recognized.

I removed the new drive and replaced the old 80GB, it boots normally.

What am I missing here?  Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Inspiron 3421 PRB Image Help - Recovery on USB storage

Hi!

Ok. So I got this new SSD installed on my inspiron 3421 and had to format the old HD. However, I backed up all the data including the PRB Image (Recovery). Point here is that I installed the Windows 10 on this new SSD and now I need to use the recovery option to restore the notebook to the factory settings.

I have the PRB Image (recovery) now on a USB 32GB storage, but can't manage to start it through boot options.

Does anyone know how can I run the recovery image using it on this usb storage?

Thank you.

Best regards,

Rafael Morales

Can I buy a new W10 outlet laptop and install W7 and W8 (dual boot)

0

I would like to buy a laptop from dell outlet but I really need a laptop on which I can dual boot W7 and W8. All the laptops I can see in the UK (euro) outlet are now Windows 10.

Is there any way to buy one of those newer W10 laptops and then run Windows 7 on it or is that not possible/ not allowed (warranty).

For example, I was thinking of a latitude i5-5200 - so an older machine. However they all seem to come with Windows 10 (which I don't want).

I'd be grateful for any advice.

Inspiron 11 3137 fails to boot

Hi,

I purchased a 3137 with Windows 8.1. Earlier this year I succumbed to windows marketing and upgraded to windows 10 after confirming with the Dell website that my laptop was compatible. Immediately I started having issues with drivers and hardware causing BSOD.

I used the built in windows software to roll back to Windows 8.1. During one of the reboots in the rollback the laptop stopped at the Dell logo, it was like that for approx 4 hours before I turned it off. The laptop will no longer boot. I am unable to get BIOS or boot options.

I turn the laptop on with the power key and the Dell logo comes up. If I press Ctrl-Alt-Del it will restart so I know the keyboard is recognised. I have pressed (and held) the Fn key for no result, I have also pressed F12, F2 and Del during start and again no result.

I have removed the CMOS battery and the RAM and main battery, the motherboard is giving beeps when I do that so I know it is doing the POST test.

Is there anything else I can try before I declare it dead and vow never to buy a Dell product ever again?

Thank you

Dell 7559 4k mouse lag after Windows 10 latest update

Hi, I just bought the dell 7559 4k laptop, it works great but right after updating the laptop with latest windows 10 update, there is a weird mouse lag on the desktop screen. The lag only seems to appear on the desktop, or if the mouse if hover over the taskbar at the bottom. The lag is really annoying and its hard to describe, like the mouse cursor just move very very slowly, sometime you will do the action (moue your finger on the touchpad) but the mouse wont move, and then suddenly it will move. If someone else is having this issue with the Dell 7559 4k series please let me know if there is a solution. I have alredy updated the BIOS, updated all intel driver and the nvidia drivers.

XPS 13/15 9530, 9550, 9630 can only reach Thunderbolt 2 speeds over Thunderbolt 3 port.

Hi,

I myself own an XPS 15 9550 and noticed that I was not getting the full Thunderbolt 3 speed
over it's Thunderbolt 3 port. I expected speeds around 2700MB/s, because of the overhead with
the theoretical gross speed of 3870MB/s, but I only ever got 1400MB/s out of it.

I did some digging and found out that none of the XPS notebooks with Thunderbolt 3 are even
able to achieve the full TB3 speeds, because they are only connected with two PCI Express lanes (x2.3).

You can read more about this on the following links:

Dell Subreddit Post
Chipset Digging on Forum

Thunderbolt 3 and the promised speeds were the MAIN REASON I even bought this notebook.
I feel very cheated here.

When I press the power button, it is giving 4 beeps or 5 beeps. So it's a memory problem or a battery problem as stated. Please tell me what to do now.

Is there a docking solution for these tablets?  I see some USB options out there, but I'm looking for one that will also charge the tablet.  Does Dell have a solution?

How to successfully toggle a latitude's boot from Legacy to UEFI?

0
0

Hi all,

I currently own two latitudes; a dell Latitude E6540 and a recently picked up Latitude D630. Am I able to use UEFI on the D630, first of all, and for the E6540, how to switch boot modes? (I'm running Windows 10, though he came to me running 7). I tried simply toggling the setting in BIOS but after doing so, I'm greeted with the nice message of no boot device found (even when my technician friend messes with it, he gets the same thing). Suggestions would be excellent. Thanks.

Hinge

So I received my laptop last December (2015) as a gift.  In April 2016 I started to notice a noise that was coming from the hinge. On inspection I noticed that there was a screw was missing for the right hinge. Upon calling Dell (in warranty) ...

1st call:  Dell Support: " You must have damaged your laptop in some way" Nothing can be done.

2nd call: Dell Support " We can not send you a screw"

3rd call: Dell Support "We will send you a pack of screws". Received  the screws, and I replaced the missing one.

Things were good for sometime on my laptop.  But then same thing started happening with the hinge but worse!

Oct. 2016... Call Dell again (as I knew my warranty was going to be up soon).

Dell Support: Sorry we can't help you. You can send in your laptop, but it will cost you $160.00 and it could be up to 16 days with out your machine. "You must have damaged it in some way"

After getting feed up with this nonsense, I started researching online, google and facebook....I find so many other people are having the same problem with the same model number. Complained on Facebook.  That person told me to reach out to Dell at a certain number...

I did.

Nov. 2016 Call Dell again... Sorry your computer is out of warranty. Its going to cost 160.00. BLAH BLAH BLAH... we can't help you. I kept trying to talk to the next manager up. After speaking with 3 people, Finally someone understood what was happening and that I have been trying since April to get something done.

That tech sent out a Tech to my house the next day which was the day before Thanksgiving 2016. When the tech started working he realized he had the wrong part. So the following Monday he came back with the right parts.
In the process of putting it back together that tech ended up pulling my wireless card wires out by mistake. Nothing could be done for at least a week.

When the next tech came to fix the wireless card...she ended up breaking my screen. Dell then asked for me to send in my laptop in to the depot to be repaired. I waited another few days for the box to reach my house. I sent the laptop in.

Just getting it back TODAY.   It seemed all is well. But on further inspection....After my screen is open to a certain point it falls back to the full open position.

I will be calling Dell back today.   The first computer I bought back in early 2000's was a Dell. I loved it. I gave it to a friend a few years ago...Its still works fine! You would think that 16 years later Dell would evolve... Not regress!  Why is customer service not priority?

So many people complain of the same problem on the same model. But when we call... Dell support says it's "user error" " you must have dropped it" "maybe you damaged it"
These are things NO CUSTOMER SERVICE of any business should say.  I'm sorry but MOST of us will always take care of our personal property....AS WE PAID FOR IT and this items have cost us a pretty penny and don't have the money to buy a new one every year!

Even though I was not charged for the repairs, as none of the damage was caused by myself. I have still had to take time out of my day to call, write emails, research online, wait on tech's, spend time and gas to ship my laptop.  I feel I should be compensated for all that.  I asked to have a purple top instead of a silver one. That was not done. I would have been happy to be compensated in that way . But no.  Dell is not taking responsibility for their defects. BUYER BEWARE! I WILL NOT BUY FROM DELL AGAIN!
