I have a new Dell XPS that seems to have an overly sensitive touchpad. I have gone through the touchpad settings but it hasn't helped much. Are there other possibilities like drivers that have more settings I could load?

Inspiron 11-3000 Notebook- No Boot Device. Please Help!!!

PROBLEM:
I have only used this laptop for about 6 months before i started having this issue. It is a Dell Inspiron 11-3000 Series 2in1 Notebook (NO OPTICAL DRIVE), running Windows 8...The laptop is out of warranty and Customer Service simply resorts to having me give them $140 to replace the drive.

When I turn my device on, after the dell splash screen, it says"No Bootable Devies, Press F1 to try reboot, F5 to run onboard diagnostics, F12 for setup" ect...I run diagnostics, the configuration states the hard drives serial number, type, and everything else...yet says it is not installed. Here's the info...

*Diagnostic Results: Hard Drive - N/A
-Hard Drive 0 - DST Short test Results: Not Applicable
-OS Boot Path 0 - Various Tests: Pass
-Boot Path - MBR of Hard Drive 0
-Event Log: PSA Failed, ERROR: 2000-0155, Hard Drive Not Installed
(How can the OS boot path pass with no HDD detected??)

*Configuration: Hard Drive 0
-OEM: ATA, product: ST500LT012-1DG142, revision: 0001,
S/N, type: SATA, size: 4gb (The seated drive is 500gb)

*In the BIOS menu, the Fixed HDD is also recognized as the above specs.
*Notebook is in UEFI SecureBoot Mode. Running the tests in Legacy does not affect these.

TROUBLESHOOTING:
I suppose I am pretty technologically inclined when it comes to computers, but i haven't had much experience with newer systems, as well as the new Windows builds. Having tried a few different remedies, all with no luck, replacing the drive is the last thing I would like to do. I have read of many people having this issue and usually all I have read about have resolved this. Your time and help is greatly valued.

WHAT I HAVE DONE:
-Reset BIOS to optimal defaults: FAIL
-Turn SecureBoot off and boot with Legacy Rom: FAIL
-Remove battery and flushed remaining power: FAIL
-Re-Seated Hard Drive: FAIL

ATTEMPTING A RE-INSTALL
-Used Legacy to Boot Flashed Win 8: CLOSE
I can load the installation process, until it has me choose the disk I am going to install on. As mentioned above in the diagnostics, I am only granted 4gb of space, so I cannot install on  the chosen partition, it says there isn't enough space The other two partitions have no space and they do not allow me to install on them. This is what happened from there...
-Tried to" Refresh My PC" & Re-Install from advanced options: FAIL: The drive where windows is installed is locked. Please unlock and try again.
-Ran DskChk: Found no problems, no further actions were required.
-Tried to re-build BCD file: Replacing boot loader didn't change anything.

CONCLUSION:
So I'm left with two issues i cannot get passed...
1. No bootable devices / 2. Drive where Windows is installed is locked.

I'm fresh out of ideas...maybe i did something wrong- idk. Any input is GREATLY appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Hi,

I would like to connect an old firewire device to Dell E5470 laptop which does not have any USD ports or Expresscard slot. According to my search on the topic, the usual cheap firewire to usb adapters wont work as my device does not support usb but firewire only.

Is there a solution that you can offer me?

Dell warranty support quality in Malaysia is bad

I have dell precision 7510, last 2 weeks, my problem is that do not put out the wireless usb of a mouse at the left usb port, so It's stuck there. I have call to Dell warranty (1800545455) to talk with my problem, and they told will fix it for me by bring a new one to replace, and to make sure my laptop doesnot have any problem, they suggest me bring it to Dell LacViet in Vietnam. In here, technician used dell diagnostics, and open my laptop to see. After that, I told him call to the above number tell them problem I have. At this time (17/11/2016 - that was thursday) they refused me. On that night, I call again to them talk why they told me to fix this problem on Monday but on Thursday they refused me. They told they would call back on Friday. On this day I met a guy called level 2 manager. He told me, I did not have warranty for this problem because I make this. I know this is my problem, but when I told him why Monday, Dell told me will support me, but after that he did not. And I ask I have home service for my laptop why I need to bring my laptop to Dell Office and they only used dell diagnostics (the easy tool I can use easily). And he also ask me when I call to dell, I said that was on Monday morning from 10-11am with my phone number. Why they need this information, I remember Dell have a service record the phone to improve quality. I request me take an email to apologize me about this problem, he told this was misunderstood and he refused, and I told using the recording log on Monday, but he try to not hear my request, and told what do I want from Dell. And I quit my talking with him. After that, one technical guy call to me and ask when I take a phone call on Monday, and have a report. Now on the first day of this week, I have not received any reports from this office, it také more than 1 week to look for 1 phone log which had my phone number, the time, date. So I post here to report the quality support in my country. It is very poor, and especially the level 2 Manager - Mr. Hien (I ask him what is his name) - the way he talked with customer. I also recored the phone log with him but it is in Vietnamese, If who one I will post it in here

My screen goes blank after Dell logo start-up

Recently, my laptop had got a corrupted Windows 10 Boot OS problem. I took it to the Dell service centre and they told me I'll get Windows 8.1 as it was what it originally came with. I was okay with it. When, I got back my laptop, I upgraded all my driver's as usual after a clean install. I upgraded my Intel Graphics but after which I couldn't access the control panel. I decided to roll back. After sometime, I decided to retry upgrading the drivers and during which my screen went completely blank and wouldn't show anything even after force restart It would just show the Dell logo and load last it but only to find blank screen. I ran diagnostic and everything showed that it was working. The BIOS was also loading. I tried going into safe mode but then also my screen wouldn't show anything other then the mouse disappearing and reappearing when I moved it. Here are the specs of my laptop:

Dell Inspiron 3537 Windows 8.1 Home Single Language

Intel i3 core processor 1.7 GHz

6 GB RAM

Intel HD Graphics 4400 ( Dedicated Drive )

AMD Radeon HD 8670M ( Catalyst Drive )

500 GB HDD

Dell Latitude E7470 OEM M.2 SSD (SK Hynix vs LiteOn) = LiteOn runs MUCH hotter

So I own two Dell Latitudes E7470 with nearly identical specs: 256GB SSD, 8GB DDR4, FHD lcd, Windows 7 Pro, and so forth.

The only difference I noticed between the two were the manufacturers of the M.2. SSDs. The first one (that has an Intel i5 chip) has a SK Hynix SC 300 and the other (with an Intel i7 chip) has a LiteOn CV3-8D256-11.

Using cystaldiskmark, the performance favor the SK Hynix by a small gap but the temperature difference was much larger.

These temps were recorded base on a clean Windows 7 Pro factory restore and using HWMonitor and cystaldiskmark.

SK Hynix SC 300LiteON CV3-8D25611
Firmware20100P00T88110B
Idle (15mins after boot-up)~39C~49C
Load~64C~84C
Operating Temperature*0 to 70C0 to 70C
Non-operating Temperature**?-40 to 85C

It only took less than 15 seconds for the SK Hynix to cool down to a reasonable low 40C range however it took the LiteOn  much longer. I estimated about a 1min to 1 min and 20 seconds for it to cool down to low 50C range.

The temperature difference can be felt on the underside of the laptops where the M.2. SSD is located.

I also noticed that Dell provided to notebookcheck.net a Samsung SSD PM851 M.2 2280 256GB for their review on the laptop. Link

I can accept the idle temperature of the LiteOn however the load temp is a little on the scary side how quickly it climbs past 60C with little effort and that it takes so much time for it to cool down below it. I am worry for those who paid a premium price for a premium laptop like my i7 Dell E7470 are getting 2nd quality SSDs that would  put our work at a risk of not only losing data but suffering any downtime.

Latitude E6430 BIOS won't update

$

Hello,

I live in Spain and I recently bought an E6430 via eBay from the USA. Everything works great, only the BIOS won't update no matter what version I'd try to use.

The current BIOS version is the A11

I have tried with A18, A17, A12 and A13 with no luck, the process would start normally under Windows 10, to the point of unpacking the E6530A18.exe file and automatically restarting the computer.

After that the computer would simply POST  and reboot normally, with no sign of even trying to finish the update, except of leaving a message in the BIOS event log saying:

Not applicable (I will have a look once more to give you the exact message)

I have also tried to update it directly from DOS running the mentioned .exe file - same results, would run the program, give the two information screens (the first information screen and the second one to confirm the update A11 -> A18 -> continue? ) then prepare the package and restart,  but won't update after POST.

Tried to load BIOS defaults and also tried to remove BIOS battery to have the BIOS  reset.

So does it have to do maybe with some ownership information from the previous owner that prevents the BIOS from being updated or modified ( I noticed that under BIOS there are also a few options - tick boxes - that I cannot change )?

I didn't find any info on this particular problem, so I decided to ask here. I know I could live with the A11 as well :-) but it would also be nice to have the computer up to date.

Would appreciate any kind of input

Regards

Inspiron 15 - 5559 screen problem

Hi,

I bought a new laptop from Currys at the end of September for my daughter as she was heading to University. A month later she phoned to say that the screen had failed. When I took it back to Currys they assessed it and said the screen was cracked. As this was "damage" it was not covered by warranty. My daughter is adamant the laptop never moved from her desk in her room and was only opened and closed by her, therefore how this damage was caused is a mystery to us.

I was reluctantly going to pay for a repair but neither Currys nor my local repair shop was able to locate a replacement screen so now I am stuck with a brand new laptop that is unusable and seemingly unrepairable.

This is the third Dell laptop we have purchased and we have also had three PC's and to be fair have never had any issues with any of them until now.

As such I would be grateful if someone could advise on what to do next.

Thank you.

Hi,

If so, si there any dock that could bring power to my laptop?

Keyboard backlight

Hello,

I've just bought a new dell inspiron 7559. When I was buying it, the consultant said that it is a little different from other 7559, because it has swedish keyboard. But the only difference is that it has two extra keys. I came home with my new laptop, and tried turning on the led on the keyboard but it didn't happen. I found out that f10 key should have an icon that shows that it should turn on the backlight. Mine does not have one. as of right now I'm using linux ubuntu.

Any Ideas? What should I do? Is it possible that my laptop does not have a led keyboard because it's swedish?

Inspiron 17R 7720 - Upgrade BIOS?

$

Two of my Inspiron 17R 7720s are currently running version A11 BIOS and the third has version A17 BIOS.  I ran the Dell Detect driver utility on one of the A11 computers and it told me to upgrade my BIOS to version A17. I am not having any issues with my computers and am wondering if this is something I ought to do.

Is there any good reason to upgrade my current version A11 BIOS to A17?

Are there any hidden pitfalls to watch when upgrading BIOS?

I am running Win7 on two computers and Win8.1 on the third. I tried the free Win10 upgrade on one of the Win7 computers twice and it failed both times. Since the Win10 free upgrade grace time is over I don't plan on any OS upgrades. If anything I'd upgrade the two Win7 computers to Win8.1.

I've got my laptop about a month ago and now I've added M.2 ssd:

Kingston HyperX Predator 240GB M.2 PCIe

The question is that HDD LED is constantly on. Not that it does affect functionality in any way, I'm just curious: can this be at least disabled?

Or anything that I can do to bring HDD activity information back?

I have just bought a Dell E6220 laptop off of eBay, and also a Windows 10 license.

I downloaded the ISO and made a bootable USB drive, but when I go to the BOS to change the boot order, it says there is a password required. Is there any way of contacting Dell to get it, or another solution.

I see various sites offering to unlock it for a fee, but am wary of these and would prefer a more official solution
