Upgrade Core i5 to Core i7 in Inspiron 17R 7720?

I'm wondering if it is possible or pratical to upgrade the Core i5 processor processor in my Inspiron 17R 7720 to a Core i7? The processor in my computer is a Core i5 3210M@ 2.5GHz; I am seeing multiple Core i7 3630QM SR0UX processors on Ebay for $100 or so. I am not worried about the mechanics of changing the processor, I am confident in my ability to swap one out. I just want to make sure the new processor will fit and work with my existing motherboard. If I do this will the BIOS automatically detect the new processor or are there some software hoops to jump through as well?

Loading Windows 7 on Latitude E7270

We have several different models of Dells in our environment and I have KMDF and UMDF both installed in our base Windows 7 image.

We are using the Latitude E8 (A18) driver family pack for our Windows 7 x64 image.  We have several Latitude E7470 laptops with the NVME M2 drives in them and they OK.  But we only have a few of the E7270 laptops and we can't get any of them to load.

It applies the OS and loads drivers and when it reboots, it starts to install the drivers and then it blue screens on the iastora.sys (PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA) and then when it reboots, it comes up with the screen below and never goes any further.  This is the same symptom that you have when you don't have KMDF and UMDF or NVME support installed... and I know we have it installed, because we've been through this with the E7470s.

Here's the article we followed with the E7470s:  www.dell.com/.../en

Is there a new BIOS setting or a special driver that we are missing for the E7270?

List of possible model name and versions returned from SMBios

Helping some folks to get some information to write a script to turn on virtualization settings across a diverse set of devices, and I was wondering if anyone has found a list that could show, for any HP computer, what Windows lists as the model name and version in the SMBios? i.e., if you issue the command "wmic csproduct get name, version", what is returned? We're looking for the string that we can put into a script that can run on any HP, detect the model and version, and then let the user know if virtualization is supported and/or was turned on successfully, without having to manually run a command on every computer to find the model and version.

Dell XPS 15 9550 Battery not charging

Seems I am now regretting my purchase of a new Dell XPS 15 Laptop.

Purchased on 20th September 2016, and seems as of 5 days ago the battery already needs replacing.

LED on front of laptop just flashes orange, battery status button on the side has LED's 1, 3 and 5 lit.

In Windows 10 Battery says "Plugged in, Not Charging" with 79% available

In BIOS battery says "Battery needs replacing", AC Adapter - 130w and 79% charged.

Laptop will no longer work on battery, has to have AC adapted plugged in and when removed it'll just power off.

After the fact I enabled the USB power option (charging phones etc. when laptop is off) and it doesn't charge without AC Adapter plugged in.

Rather annoyed at myself, I have always avoided Dell but I went against my gut instinct and spent £1400 on a laptop that is no longer fit for purpose.

Guess it's time to buy a replacement battery and never buy anything from dell again

Latitude E6420 100% Brightness But Screen Is Still Dark

I have windows 10 installed on my laptop This is not a problem I have had before I have to shine a flashlight at my computer screen in order to see anything. When I open the display settings, it says my brightness is already at 100%, and nothing changes when I drag the slider, or when I plug it in. The brightness won't change when using the Fn key either. I tried disabling and re-enabling the display adapter and that didn't work either. I have also tried restarting my computer but again nothing changed. I don't know what could have caused this to happen; I've had this computer for a year and have never experienced this. Any help to fix this problem would be appreciated!

Dell Latitude Rugged Tablet 7202 and HAVIS 602-02 Mobile Dock - Won't Charge

Hi Folks

I have a Dell Latitude Rugged Tablet 7202 and HAVIS 602-02 Mobile Dock that will not charge.

The original Lind Power Supply has the ID chip for 45 watts. HAVIS sent my a 90 watt cable. I can see the difference when I go to BIOS. Under battery one cable displays 45 watts the other 90 watts.

HAVIS tech support indicated the problem is Dell. I am hoping that I don't get bounced back and forth between Dell and HAVIS.

Anyone have a similar issue?

NOTES:

Have ruled out the power source by using 2 different high quality regulated switching power supplies. These power supplies run sensitive electronics, the power is good.

When booting up in the dock the BIOS generates a message to select running without charging. In this condition the dock features all work perfectly, by the batteries can't be charged.

When the tablet is separated from the dock, charging with either cable (45/90 watts) charging is perfect.

Part of the ongoing XPS 15 9530 i7-4712HQ 2.3GHz problem of "no power"

I've looked on Google, Dell, and a few other places to find out what happened to my Ultrabook. The laptop kept saying it was getting no power although it was plugged in and charging (or so it said). Finally it ran out of power, and in the last throws, it would try to power on, then die for lack of power. I bought a new AC Power supply, tested the electrical connections (all at spec), a new battery,,.and all but the motherboard. Here's my question: what is the difference between the Dell xps 9530 nwym9, 43pmm, and r99vn? I'm sure something in the nomenclature is obvious, but I just don't see it.

Aside from the mnotherboard designation questions, has anyone solved the power out question? What lead up t6o this situation what constantly shortened power, although plugged in. Thank you

Vostro won't start - black screen plus continuous beeping

Hi,

My Dell Vostro 3560 rebooted after installing the latest updates for Windows but when it restarted it showed flashing buttons on the keyboard and then only a black screen with a slow continuous beep.

The beep sounds once every three seconds and just keeps repeating continuously.

After googling for a while, I found the advice to remove the battery, unplug the laptop, hold the power button down for 60sec then plug in the power again and try to reboot.

This initially worked. But I decided to try and figure out what had caused the problem by rebooting again with the battery removed.

The same error occurred but this time I couldn't get it to boot by doing the process described above. Every time I tried to reboot it showed the flashing three buttons on the keyboard, then a black screen with a continuous beep. I do hear the fan startup and it sounds like the harddrive starts working.

Some more googling, and I learned you could start ePSA diagnostics by holding down the function key while pressing the power button to start the laptop.

So I did this and the screen started up and showed the Dell loading screen. It then ran the ePSA diagnostics but that showed that everything was ok. After ePSA the only option is to reboot so I did that and again the same problem: black screen with beeping. So I rebooted again holding down the function key and when the Dell screen was shown and I was able to press F12 and go into the boot options. After looking at the bios, I chose to close the bios and continue booting, and windows loaded ok.

I'm a bit scared to try rebooting again. But I would like to figure out what the problem is. Any suggestions on what tests I can run?

I don't understand why the Dell screen shows when I hold down the function key and press power, but it the screen doesn't even turn on if I press the power button on its own.

Could it be a bios setting? or the harddrive?

Any suggestions would be most welcome.

ThanksB

So there are couple of problems i am experiencing:

1) slow start up

2) when i pauze a video and hit play again, there is a 2-3 second lag of no audio

3) slow SSD benchmark

I recently posted a topic about the slow SSD and i already bought a new dell since then. This time however its an i7 instead of i5 and its also a different brand of hard drive.. Yet i am experiencing the same problem.. so this cant be hardware related then right.

And can all these problems have to do with the same issue? something that makes the SSD perform poorly?

4) simultaneous use of ,microphone and keyboard/mouse doesnt work??

its not normal right? that so many things are wrong?

Hi All,
My laptop is Dell Latitude E6330, with latest BIOS ver A17
The existing BIOS is legacy, and the Windows 10 in the laptop is MBR type.
I cloned it using Transcend SSD Scope but it is not bootable. (Checked in the SSD Scope, its firmware is latest)

I have tried using Windows 10 dvd to boot and direct install into the SSD. Both BIOS/MBR and UEFI/GPT unable to proceed the Windows 10 installation.

Does this Transcend SSD370S compatible to Dell Latitude E6330 ?
Please help. Thanks.

Dell inspiron 7520: Loose charging port, missing rubber ring insert

Hello to all of the Dell Community!

In our hands we have a Dell Inspiron 7520, to which the battery does not stay in the charging port and is loose, to which it often falls out and the computer switches off.

In retaliation to this, i have ordered a new charging port, but also have noticed that, their is originally a small rubber ring which is missing, which is normally in front of the charging port, on the laptops casing and looks like it keeps the charger in the port, preventing it from sliding out so easily.

Where in gods name can i find this small little piece :D it has been the hardest thing to look for and find, an can not seem to get it anywhere! or know of the proper name for it.

Regards

MJ

XPS 11 freeze on DELL logo

I tried to install Windows 10 on XPS 11 laptop. The installation required a restart. The laptop restarted itself and froze on the DELL logo. When I try accessing BIOS (with F2) or the boot menu (F12), the option highlights itself (as in being selected), but nothing happens whatsoever. I took the battery out, pressed the Power button for 10 secs, placed the battery back on, but again nothing happened. If someone could tell me how to fix this...

D3100 Dock USB ports won't work with Precision 5510

I have a Dell Precision 5510 for work running Windows 7. I purchased a Dell D3100 dock to connect my external monitors. Before I purchased, I used the chat assistant to confirm that the D3100 would work with my computer even though it wasn't on the Compatible List. I was assured by that individual that it would work fine. As soon as I received the dock I installed the DisplayLink software and the Dell driver for USB 3 Docking Stations (Dock_DL_Win_A00_Setup-HF3KV_ZPE). The displays are working perfectly and the audio out from the dock is working, however, none of the USB ports on the dock function. Since my laptop only has 2 USB 3.0 ports and one is used by the dock I do not have enough USB ports. I don't want to run a seperate USB Hub since adding additional plugs defeats the purpose of a dock in my opinion.

Does anyone have any idea why the rest of the dock is functioning but not the USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 ports? I have plugged other USB Hubs in to my laptop and they work fine.

Is it really permanent light of the backlit keyboard? (Inspiron 17R 5737)

Hello,

Laptop - Inspiron 17R 5737.

Does anybody knows is it really set permanent lighting of the backlit keyboard?

In fact I see 3 modes of my backlit keyboard: ON, middle-brightness, OFF.

But even in the ON mode keyboards lights only 30 seconds and if I don't push any key - it is go out.

It is very unusefull, when I reading long text in night and can't see my keyboard after 30 seconds.

Is it any key combination or may be some third-party tool, which can make my backlit permanent?

How to bring the Latitude 7275 out of Sleep mode?

Hey guys,

I got a Dell Latitude 7275 a few weeks ago but just cant figure out how to bring it out of sleep mode properly.
When I put it to sleep and dont use it for a little while, I have to press the power button on the side a few times and it seems almost random when the tablet turns back on.
Sometimes I press the power button 1-2 times and then it briefly vibrates and wakes up, sometimes up to 6 times before it reacts and the odd time it doesnt do anything until I hold the button for 15s and it reboots.

Can anyone explain just how waking the device properly works?

Thanks!

Dell Inspiron 3537 having touchpad problems: clicking and dragging things when i don't tap

This is a last ditch effort to attempt to figure out what's wrong. I've been having to use a mouse the past few days on my Dell Inspiron 3537 because of it's sudden, odd touchpad problem. Now, this laptop is at least three years old, and it'll probably be high time to get a new one eventually, but I would rather like to see if this is a small issue I could get fixed and maybe get a few more months or another year out of it.

Essentially, on Saturday, my laptops' touchpad began to go on the fritz. It began to highlight, click, and drag objects while I was only moving the cursor across the screen. I was baffled and I proceeded to see if my drivers needed to be updated. Nope, according to the Dell website, my drivers for my touchpad were up to date. I looked into the touchpad properties, got no results from that, and eventually I decided to see if going back on a touchpad driver update might help. That didn't fix anything and actually removed the entire driver from my system, so I ended up re-downloading the touchpad driver. That didn't help either. Every time I thought I had maybe fixed it, it went right back to highlighting and clicking without my input. At that point, I gave up and disabled the touchpad and grabbed my mouse, which I've been using ever since.

My only other thought is that my touchpad has a dead spot, and/or this issue is just age and it's time to start backing up files and looking for a new one. Any help out there for me?

Alps Touchpad driver won't install in Inspiron 17R

Inspiron 17R N7110, Windows7 Home Premium

I am trying to install the current Alps touchpad driver R307442.exe as listed under my service tag. Of course I am doing this to have some control over the touchpad, which I have none now.  The installation fails every time (install wizard).

I have looked at the other driver updates, and there are 2 bios updates, but it doesn't appear they would affect the Alps install (bios#1 for Windows8 upgrade, bios#2 to revert to old bios) and I don't want to install them anyway.

Any help in installing this Alps driver is much appreciated.
