I have Dell laptop inspiron 15z. From some time whenever I start the laptop it gives 8 beeps and screen is split into 4 parts. I did a factory reset and also checked the hardware by opening the laptop.

I also did the LCD test with 'D' button pushing.

I also performed epsa it gave me 2 errors.

Error code 2000 0415 and 2000 0321. 

for error 1 got msg Cables. check the LCD Cable.

for error 2 got msg LCDFDID check- FDID EEPROM.

What should I do to troubleshoot or repair the laptop I bought it very costly and its used less than 3 years. 

Any help will be appreciated.

The 9550 and 9350 are still stuck on firmware that is 2 major releases behind (NVM16).

The newly released XPS 13 9360 has the latest firmware (NVM18).

All three machines have the exact same Thunderbolt 3 Controller (1575).

When will Dell update our machines with the latest firmware? We've been through absolute *** trying to use the TB15 and other TB3 items. A software update could greatly increase stability for us.

Does the old Adamo 13 require a "sensing" power supply?

I've been trying to revive a nice old Adamo 13, which WAS a premium model (even can take an internal SIM card!).

I've fixed the touchpad, and have just gotten a new battery "slice", but, like the old slice, the machine does not "recognize" it.

Now my original sleek Dell power suppy had died, so I'm using a more generic one that fits fine, and puts out 19V @ 4 amps, which should be fine, but now I'm wondering whether the original adapter might have incorporated technology that worked in conjunction with some kind of Dell battery sensing mechanism.  Does anybody know whether that's the case?

This other adapter certainly runs the laptop just fine, apart from not being able to battery charge.

I DID manage to upgrade to the "latest" BIOS version, but it didn't help.

Bug Description

Symptoms appeared after upgrading to BIOS ver: 4.0.11, A13 from previous ver:  4.0.9, A12 and clean-installing Ubuntu 16.10 or 16.04.1.

DELL Inspiron 14-3452 (3000 series) laptop

Upon tapping, once and releasing, either the XF86monBrightnessUp or XF86monBrightnessDown keys in a Unity-7 session, the OSD appears, sometimes delayed, and begins to lower or raise the backlight level, repeatedly, to the maximum or minimum level. The system comes under load and is less responsive to any input or attempts to cancel / counteract the action.

Manual adjustments via the echoing of numbers-in-range to the /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness work normally and as expected.

*** SOLUTION ***

Revert to previous BIOS version: 4.0.9, A12

Brightness keys return to normal operation in all desktop/windowing environments.

As if we didn't have evidence enough that these 3147 2-in-1's are total junk, mine is now totally unresponsive. Will not start, can't even get the led to light up. No amount of holding power buttons does anything whether it is plugged in or not. I am astonished at how bad these machines are. I have 2 and have had nothing but trouble from day one with both. The wifi quit on this one a few months ago and now it won't run at all. And, conveniently for Dell, the warranty expired 2 months ago. Fifth, and last Dell product I will ever buy.

Anyone have a similar experience? Suggestions?

I need to update my 14z 5423 but when i run the 5423A13.exe (Bios updater) my pc freezes. What can i do?

I am trying to find the link on the Dell website to buy an original battery for my XPS L502X in SA,i cannot seem to find any link? when i called the local office they referred me to another agency whom asked me to "register " with them before i could purchase a battery? Please help as i need a Dell product,

I have a dell inspiron 14 5000 series Intel i7 processor 4gb ram and i decided to add another 8gb into it. So I bought one but I only see black screen on startup . I chcked on another laptop if the ram was the problem , but it works on my brother's laptop. Also the charging light is blinking white and orange lights.

My laptop's battery was totally drained and it took long before I was able to charge it again. When I charged it, the battery icon at the back blink a few orange then turns to white then few orange then white and so on... When I tried to turn on my laptop, only the keyboard lit up, the screen didn't. I don't know what to do. Someone please help:(

I just bought a new Dell Inspiron 17 2-in-1. There is allready a SanDisk X400 7mm SSD installed, but there is a slot for a M.2 SSD open.

I bought the M.2 version of the SanDisk X400 (500GB) for compatibility, but after plugin it in, it doesnt pick up?

Should I do some extra setting or installments?

Dell states that the XPS17 is not being tested for Win 10 upgrade !!!!

How is this possible????

This top-of-the-line computer cost nearly $3000, and is barely 3-years old, and Dell has the audacity to not support it with the latest Microsoft operating system ????  Inconceivable!

Here's an excellent reason to never buy a Dell product!!!!  This type of 'designed  obsolescence' does not bode well for any company in today's competitive environment.

Perhaps a forum member can suggest if any Win 10 drivers will work . . .

I recently experienced a permanent battery failure on my Dell Inspiron 5548 laptop, and it can now only work while plugged in. The advice I found after perusing online would be to update BIOS. I've gone to Dell Support, had the site detect my Service TAG, and downloaded the manual BIOS update file(s). However, when I try to click on the new program, it brings me to this thing called "Insyde", which A.) asks for an ID and version and B.) won't work at all anyways since it says my battery needs to be at at least 10% for BIOS to be flashed. Now, I can't charge my computer at all since the battery is fried, since I'm basically running on electricity.

Not only am I unsure if a BIOS update will even fix my battery failure issue, but I can't even test it.

My Version: 10.0.14393 Build 14393

Advice?

Hi Everyone,

I'm wondering if someone could provide any suggestions, or confirm that this is not normal. 

I got this brand new XPS literally a week ago.  This is my 7th day using it, and the battery fully charged is saying I have anywhere from 3-5 hours left on it.  What happened to the 12 hours?? I'm a freelance going to several different offices and that was the whole reason I got a new computer.  It's pretty embarrassing having to crawl under a conference table looking for a plug all the time.

I even switched from using Chrome which is supposed to be a battery hog, turned down the screen brightness etc.   I only use several browser tabs, google drive, microsoft office programs like word or excel.  I haven't even installed Adobe Illustrator yet, which I fear would really kill the battery fast.  Has anyone else experienced this?

Hi,

I have a Dell XPS 13 that won't boot.  The keyboard lights, but nothing ever comes on the screen.  I saw this post here, and found the following:

1.  LCD BIST (hold the letter <D>) - that worked fine.

2.  I also tried the PSA (holding <Fn>) and tried to run diagnostics by tapping <F12> - neither of these worked.  Nothing happens, no beeps, no screen change, nothing.

3.  I've tried hooking an external monitor up via the mini display port (I use this often to watch video on an HDTV), nothing ever shows on the TV.

At this point assuming my motherboard needs replaced.

I have the XPS-13-9001sLV, model L321X with 4 gigs ram, and the 1.7 ghz I7 processor, 256 GB SSD, Service Tag can be provided via PM to a dell representative if needed.

Every search for a L321X mb returns the basic same results... 4gb ram max, etc.  (I'm assuming that by definition my model is the one with 4gb ram and that's why I only see those options).

Here is my question ... I realize the RAM can't be upgraded on this mb, but can I order a compatible motherboard with more RAM and possibly a more powerful CPU that will work with my hardware configuration?  I see a lot of L322X motherboards that can give me what I need, but are they compatible with my L321X model?

Is there a place I can look to see what other motherboards are compatible with my XPS model?

Hello, I would like to announce that this model haven't this issue fixed, while other models such as E7450 have.

You can read about the issue on this thread, specially THIS POST, which clearly reflects the idea of what's going on.

I am running the latest BIOS (A16) for E6410 and  would like to know whether this issue can be fixed somehow on Linux systems.
