How do I permanently toggle the Fn key on my Dell Latitude E7440?

I know there is a way through the BIOS menu but mine looks nothing like everyone else's. There is no advanced tab or Fn Key Behavior button. Also there is no option in the Windows Mobility Center. I've tried little tricks like Fn + Esc or Fn + Caps Lock, I've tried pretty much everything but I can't switch it no matter what I do.

Slow motion mouse on desktop - XPS 15 9550

I'm finding when the mouse is scrolling on the desktop its extremely slow - like slow motion. If there is a window like Microsoft Edge taking up some desktop space then the mouse cursor will speed back up to normal again but as soon as it goes back to desktop its slow motion.

Its severely irritating. I have a top spec XPS 9550 running Windows 10.

Anyone know what the problem is? is a display driver issue? It happens sometimes not all the time.

Good chill mat for Dell XPS 13 9350 to use it on lap. Gets hot on my legs!

I recently bought a Dell XPS 13 9350 because i wanted a small form laptop to use on my lap while sitting in my couch. It sits perfect however gets too warm at the bottom so on my legs. I'm thinking about returning it. Really disappointed. I really wish Dell had placed airholes on the side or also used carbon fiber at the bottom to keep it cool.

Are there any good chill mats for this device too hold it stable on my lap that aren't too bulky. I found the vid below about the Targus 15" chill mat but won't my 13" slide off while typing? Any better solutions? They mats all seem to give an angle but i don't need an angle. The angle i have it on my lap right now is just fine. I just need a cool surface that holds it in place when typing.

Thanks for all good feedback. (Please visit the site to view this video)

Dell Inspiron 7720 GPU not showing AND BIOS update Error 105

$

Hello,

So as it says in the title i have a 4 years old Inspiron 7720, and for the larger portion of that period of time it worked like a charm.

However lately it started doing some quirky things.

About two weeks ago my GPU (GeForce GT 650M) just disappeared from my Device Manager. I tried updating my GPU drivers, updating Windows (10) but it didn't seem to change anything.
So i did some digging and found this: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19498450

Apparently I'm not the only one who encounterd this problem and there is a solution.
HOWEVER, whenever I try to flash my BIOS an error pops up which reads: "ERROR 105 - Command line error! Status = 105."

I searched and found more users that experienced this problem, but the only solution I managed to find was reinstalling the OS, which is quite a drastic measure.

Is there any other way to fix this error?
Thank you

Dell Precision M6500 driver install - Which ones?

Hi, hopefully not hard questions:

Question 1:

I found the installation guide (however it's not listed at Download&Drivers site):

http://www.dell.com/support/Article/hu/hu/hubsdt1/SLN285343/EN#IDT_92HDxxx_HD_Audio

It's point 5. lists: Dell Control Point Security Manager - System Devices

I went to the Download&Drivers site:

http://www.dell.com/support/home/en/en/hubsdt1/product-support/servicetag/2673yp1/drivers/advanced?dcp=dndtag

Here, there are 2 files for me:

1. Dell ControlPoint Security Manager Application: It's not for M6500. (View details) True? (Why is it listed at M6500 drivers site?)

2. Dell ControlPoint Security Device Driver Pack: It's name a little different than at point 5.

Which ones do I need?

Question 2:

Point 10. lists: Conexant Modem Daughter card (MDC) Drivers (little lower name is different: Conexant D330,HDA,MDC,v.92 Modem, little lower: Broadcom USH driver)

There are 4 files at Download&Drivers site, however not D330 but D400:

1. Conexant D400 USB 56K Modem Driver: It's not for M6500. (View details) True?

2. Conexant D400 External USB 56K Modem Application:  It's not for M6500. (View details) True?

3. Conexant D400 External USB 56K Modem Diagnostics Utility: Is it driver?

4. Conexant D400 External USB 56K Modem Utility: It's not for M6500. (View details) True?

Which ones do I need?

Thanks in advance,

Peter

Inspiron 7559 - Will not Boot up

$

I just bought this Inspiron 15 7559, used.  The previous owner says it was working perfectly when he sent it to me.

When I received it (Oct 24), it would not boot up.  I'd press the power button, and the power button and keyboard backlight would come on, and a fan would come on for about 2 seconds and then stop, but that was it.  Also, the status light would alternate flashing white a few times, then amber.  We took the battery and memory out, and did a power reset.  Replaced the memory and plugged in the AC adapter, and the computer started up.  So we put the battery back in, and everything was good.

Less than a week later (Oct 30), I was using the computer, just checking Facebook and email and such, and the screen went crazy and froze up.  All I could do was do a force shutdown.  But when I tried to turn it back on, it was doing the same thing it did when I received it.  We tried what we did before, removing battery and memory and resetting power and all that, but it still will not come on.  I ran the LCD BIST test, and the screen did come on and flash different colors, so I know the screen itself still works.

The laptop is still under warranty, so I could send it in.  Or, the person I got it from said they'd give me my money back if they had to.  I just wanted to find out if it was something I could possibly fix myself, before having to send it off for who knows how long, or returning it to the previous owner completely.

Also, I have submitted a warranty transfer form, but the warranty hasn't yet been officially put in my name yet.  Is this going to be a problem if I have to send it in within the next couple of days?

Right hinge Inspiron 5000 series

I bought the Inspiron laptop online in October 2014. At the beginning of this year we noticed that sometime the "right hinge" started to give a cracking sound. We didn't pay attention to this problem, but it got worse and now there is a space between the cover and the laptop itself. We are not closing the cover anymore. I went online and discovered that this is an ongoing problem with this laptop. We would like it fixed. Can anybody advise us what route to take to get it repaired? Without going through BBB? Thank you.

Upgrading Memory Module

$

Hi I have recently purchased inspiron 5567 laptop and I think I would need to add more RAM to it.

in India I don't find anywhere on the Dell official site, an option to purchase a memory module.

So I wanted to know from where I can purchase a compatible RAM for Inspiron 5567? (do I have to look for any specific brand for memory module?)

Is it okay to purchase from a local computer store or from online store like Amazon or Flipkart?

Secondly, do I have to take my laptop to the service center to replace the module or I can replace it at my home itself?

If I replace it at my own, will it affect my laptop's warranty?

Replacement SSD mSATA 32Gb

I have an XPS14 laptop now out of warranty which is running very slowly. The ePSA shows that HD0 has failed (code 2000-01-42) I presume that this is the mSATA 32GB SSD rather than the 500 GB HD which appears to be OK.

I can buy a replacement mSATA on Amazon or eBay but would it need setting up with software?

Thanks in advance for advice.

Vostro 1320 Display Bezel Replacement: Is it Really that Complicated?

$

I need to replace (or just mend if replacements are no longer available) the front display bezel on my Vostro 1320. According to the Dell service manual, you have to remove the display assembly, which entails also removing the battery, hard drive, WLAN card, hinge cover, and keyboard.

Is it really that complicated.? A non-Dell website (www.laptopinventory.com/.../LCD) suggests that all you need to do is remove the screw covers and screws and pry off the bezel. I don't want to go ahead with this without checking.

Thank you,

Terry

Is the "system password" in the XPS13 Bios the same as the SSD password? If I set this password, and someones removes the SSD and plugs it into another computer, would they be able to read the content, or would they have to enter the password first?

Inspiron 5547 won't turn off

Good day.

I've been having a problem for the past few weeks. My laptop can't turn off completely. When the screen gets black the laptop cooler is still running. After that I can't turn the laptop on. I have to hold the power button for a few seconds that forces it to turn off completely and only after that I can turn it on again.

Recently I replaced my HDD to SDD (Samsung EVO 850) installed Windows 10 from scratch, updated BIOS and all the drivers to the latest versions (from dell website) but still have the same problem :(

I tried several pieces of advice: 1. Disabled USB power management feature that can turn off usb power for a while. 2. Turned off hibernation. 3. Tried different Intel Video drivers (Windows Default, from dell web site, the latest from Intel website).

No result.

Can you help me to discover the issue, please? I believe that this is a driver/BIOS problem. It probably happened after the latest BIOS update.

Can my SSD be killed by force turn off (the power button holding)?
