I have a docking station that no longer powers. It powered yesterday, today nothing. I've checked the power supply, which is working fine when powered direction to the laptop. However when connected to the dock, no power enters the dock. I've checked for physical damage, none is apparent. Dock Model PR02X.
Can this be fixed? Or do I just need to purchase a new dock? I don't want to spend the money unless I must.

There's a bios update that has just been released for my laptop, i'm trying to install it but i get this error message : There isn't any ROM file in this directory
the bios version is A09
the current one is A08
So shall i install it throught USB flash or what shall i do exactly?

Custom built and delivered yesterday. My new XPS15, which I made sure to turn on with full battery charge today says battery 78% depleted already, after only 3 hours of operation. Most of that time on BATTERY SAVER. I too, am a bit concerned about the gap between advertised battery life and reality. I will let you know when it is fully depleted and how long it really lasted.

I was very excited to get my beautiful xps 13 9360 developer edition yesterday. I immediately ran 'sudo apt update; sudo apt upgrade', installed and switched to the gnome desktop, and started a big rsync job to get my files over from my old computer. I haven't done any other setup other than for applications.
Sadly, the laptop has been very glitchy in less than a day of usage. So far:
* the lack of palm detection for the touchpad constantly causes the cursor to jump, but there seems to be no fix for this from an hour of googling;
* the system crashed once (music started stuttering and everything was unresponsive);
* my headphones don't work when I plug them in (music continues to play through the internal speakers) -- some googling points to some fiddling that may fix this problem;
* the wifi has died twice after suspend and had to be turned off / on;
* the trackpad pointer has become unresponsive twice, requiring a reboot to get it working again;
* after leaving the computer on over night to run the rsync, I found the wifi had died again in the morning, but I had to reboot the computer to get it working this time.
I have run the boot diagnostics, and they report that everything is working fine (still waiting for the memory test to finish).
What's up with this? I was a long time linux on the desktop guy, moved to macbooks for several years, and was very excited to get back onto linux, but hopefully without the constant fiddling with kernel utilities to get basic stuff to work. Am I expecting too much? Have I done something wrong in the setup? I guess maybe bad hardware would explain some of these issues, but others seems like they are just accepted bugs.
When will Dell enable Intel Speed Shift via a BIOS update? All the BIOS update requires is requires is writing 1 to MSR 0x770!
Speed Shift was fully supported by Intel and Microsoft in 2015 (1 year ago!). It makes the CPU much more responsive (particularly in gaming and real-time tasks) and costs nothing.
In the meantime, anyone can run software manually to enable Speed Shift but you need to relaunch the software every time your computer sleeps or turns off, so that is inconvenient. But the boost in performance is worth the effort.
I have manually enabled SpeedShift via software such as ThrottleStop or just writing 1 to MSR 0x770.
Dell - can you get Speed Shift into the next BIOS revision?!?!

I Just bought a Dell Inspiron 7000 gaming laptop (7559 I think) but the backlit keyboard isn't working.
I tried to hit fn - ->, fn f10 fn f7
I also tried to activate the backlit via Bios but there is no such option.
Can you help me how to activate this.?

i bought xps 15 9550 6 months ago.and since then the laptop was damged there were many problems this problems appear after 1 week of usage unfortunately i went to another country so i went to dell support office more than 4 times and some of these problems fixed and other still. my laptop problems all in hardware. somtimes when i move the laptop it power off the lap should power up after then but sometimes it doesnt when it power off sometime itsnt power up. i should wait about 15 min to power it up and sometimes it doesnt work. also i dont know about the cooling system in lap but the lap is overheated somtimes. so can i ask for replacment ? and why these problems happen. by the way i changed the mother board twice

I purchase Dell Inspiron 5555 on 2nd October 2016, However I have noticed that it reboots randomly without any error or blue screen.
Note sure if anybody else has faced this issue.
I am also unable to lookup my express code or service tag on Dell's website either
I get an error message that the code is unrecongnised

Just got a Dell xps 13 l321x model ( not new ) and the battery life is about 2 - 2 and half hours max.
Is that ok for this model or should I change the battery?And if I do what will be the average battery life ( with a new battery ).

I need some help recovering Windows 10 on my XPS13 9350. Due to a charging issue the motherboard and ssd were replaced by DELL yesterday. However left me without a working system (I needed to restore Windows myself). What I've done:
I tried recovery, reset, I tried different BIOS settings (but I don't know what they should be!!. The laptop asked a few times to enable TMP, which I did.
I tried to create a Dell Recovery & Restore USB drive, but the tools to create one only run on Windows (whereas the only working OS in my home is OSX).
Now I'm stuck, I don't know what to do to get Windows running. Who has any tips for me?

I have installed windows 10 in my Inspiron 15 3542.
When I shutdown the computer, sometimes the fan keeps running till the battery drains out.
Then I have to keep pressing power button and power off the laptop.
Previously I had Windows 8.1 and no issues at all.
Any healpful ideas guys?

When I connect 4g usb dongle to my Latitude E5430, it says "device driver software could not be installed". Performing diagnostics on USB (using dell support assist) while connecting the dongle returned an error saying a hardware replacement needs to be done. I have two different usb dongles from different vendors & with both devices its same.
I also have another E5430, with same problem. All 3 usb ports says the same. Other USB devices such as kb/mouse/flash drives/ext hdds seems to be working fine.
I am guessing its just something related to a driver which enables the usb ports to detect these devices. Can someone please advise!

i recently purchased dell vostro 3558.
i installed windows 8
when i downloaded and installed the touchpad driver from dell support, the driver wast installed tbut it did not asked to restart. the next dialogue box showed that the driver is installed but it wasn't installed at all.
i didn't find any synaptics in "show hidden icons" and the aditional features like multitouch scroll etc are also not working. please help
