Stylus for Inspiron 2 in 1

Hi,

I received a Dell Inspiron 2in1 laptop that can also be a tablet and I'm looking for the best option for a stylus. I have a regular one, but I am at college and would really like to be able to take notes on it so I am looking for a fine point pen stylus that works with the touchscreen on my laptop. Do you know which one would be the best option for me? Please let me know.

New Alienware 15 Laptops description incorrect???

Hi,

Not sure where to send this but I was just reviewing your Alienware 15 systems to purchase a new system for myself here

http://www.dell.com/p/alienware-15-laptop/pd.aspx?c=ie&cs=iedhs1&l=en&s=dhs&~ck=mn

and noticed typos for the 1st two systems regarding the graphics cards, it states "NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1060 with 8GB GDDR5X", they are in fact only 6GB and should not have the "X" in GDDR5X. Just thought I would bring this to your attention as it was causing me great confusion and much time researching when shopping for a new system and will need to be updated/changed. Also while I have you could you advise me if Dell has a loyalty program available?

Cheers,
Graeme

Dell battery not detected in BIOS, meter shows 100% charged

My Inspiron 17R just had a Windows 10 update.  Immediately afterward (by coincidence or ??), the battery would not function.  If I do not have the adapter connected, it is dead.  According to the BIOS, it is not a Dell battery.  Well, yes it is, original to the machine.  Meanwhile, the battery meter shows at 100% and plugged in.

Any ideas?

Just bought a new Dell Laptop, not a refurbished laptop a new one. The day I opened the box and turned it on it had serious problems. After talking to the service people they said I should send it in for "repair". Shouldn't I get a new laptop if the new one I just purchased and paid $800. for stops working? I am not purchasing a repaired laptop I am buying a new laptop.

XPS 14 (L421x) Qualcom Killer wireless misery....

Had to do a reformat and Win7 64 bit reinstall.  Everything fine but the wireless.  Seems like when I first got this there issues with the Qualcomm Killer wireless.  From my specific downloads page for my system I downloaded the 2 network drivers:

Qualcomm Killer 1202 WiFi + Bluetooth Driver

 View details     File Name: Network_Driver_HXG7Y_WN_1.0.35.1064_A02.EXE

Realtek RTL8111F Ethernet Controller Driver

 View details  File Name: Network_Driver_26MJ5_WN_7.049.0927.2011_A01.EXE
http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product-support/servicetag/31T6TZ1/drivers
Here is what I got:
  1. With both drivers successfully installed I have the 4 network items in device manager with no yellow exclamation marks: Bluetooth (PAN), Bluetooth (RFCOMM), Atheros Quallcom Wifi 1202, and Realtek Lan.

  2. Wireless networks appear, none will connect.

  3. Plug in LAN cable and the wireless icon in system tray never switches over the the LAN icon.  Lan seems disabled.  Also shows LAN red x in Netowrk Sharing.

  4. Using the Fn+Wifi turns off Bluetooth, removes both BT from Device manager, but doesnt affect wifi.

Way messed up drivers....  all thoughts welcome.

Dell XPS 12 Screen Burn in

Hi.

I purchased a Dell XPS 12 about a year and a half ago.  Only recently have I become aware of serious monitor burn in issues that are plaguing my computer.  Apparently this is a well known issue for Dell:

www.pcworld.com/.../dell-replacing-displays-on-xps-12-hybrids-with-burn-in-issues.html

Notice the title of that webpage is "Dell replacing displays on XPS 12 Hybrids with 'burn in' issues".  Note this little quote:

“This image retention does not affect the lifetime performance of the LCD display. Dell is replacing the displays for affected customers,” spokeswoman Ellen Murphy said via email.

That includes systems that are outside their warranty period, Murphy said. XPS 12 users experiencing the problem should contact Dell technical support.

I for one, can say this is absolutely false.  I've been bounced around from tech support, to out of warranty support, to customer support to @DellCares on twitter.  They all claim this is not a known issue, despite that their PR director claims they are replacing them for free.  So I'm being told the only way to fix my defective laptop, which was sold to me defective, is to pay the $300 repair costs to replace this issue.

This is, quite frankly, outrageous. That Dell claims to do one thing, and then completely renegs on it when it actually asked to do so.  For the love of god, will someone at this company please respond and actually honor your agreements with your customers?  Stand by your product?  PLEASE.

I have been a tech for now some 30+ years, I have had my 18.4'' ALIEN REPLACED ONCE! I'm on my second one for 5 months now and had nothing but problems, freezing, locking up, losing my screen, the net card is so slow I can go to my spouses pc and get the work done on my old Toshiba that is 8 years old and get things done faster!, I care for disabled vest two of which have life treating health issues that I my need to be able to IM VA hospitals at a drop of a hat is why I can not send my laptop in for service for a week to 10 days, or more. I have done my research and I will not have any more refer-bushed parts put in my machine! After 2 mother boards and 4 video cards can you blame me.... When I worked at HP doing customer returns the dreaded Azures mother boards have been hated for the failure rate , I do not know why dell would pout such a *** poor product in their machine . I still have my old dell from 12 years ago it runs on window 3.4 LOL but it runs.  Dell has stop! making 18.4  Alien machines due to the failure rate so why the *** will they not replace my machine with a 17.4" of like I paid over $2500 for this darn thing only to lose graphic projects before I can saving them , losing over 200 hours of work for graphics.... Sigh I hope dell will replace this thing soon.

Just purchased a Dell Inspiron 17 5765. Specs for the laptop said it had 16GB DDR4 2400 MHz.

But the system shows the DDR4 as only 1200MHz. Is this something I should be concerned about?

Thanks.

Power adaptor mismatch

Hello All!

I am having a pretty hard time finding a power adaptor that is compatible with my laptop, an old latitude E6400 (Tag# 1DN25K1)

It had a nasty tumble in an airport then the adaptor was doused in broken duty free limoncello, I trashed it to be on the safe side assuming a replacement woauld be as easy as pie.

When I got back stateside I handed it in to a repair shop however the repair shop owner after ordering a replacement directly from dell that would theoretically work according to the express service code number, in order to assess any damage simply did not fit the socket. He apparently tried matching it with a variety of different adaptors from his 'library' but none fit so he handed it back to me after trying to get a match from customer support and failing.

My wife has three different dells, all work models spanning over 7 years, and none of their adaptors fit either.

Thinking about buying this - any thoughts? www.laptoprescue.com/.../

I am completely at a loss how to proceed here other than attaching a pic of the socket.

Sincerely,

Robert.

Dell XPS 13 9350 touchscreen fault

Kind of an info post & a question.

My new Dell XPS 13 9350 touchscreen started to intermittently fail & within a day or 2 it completely gave up. I also noticed that there was no touchscreen device in Device Manager (under HID section) nor any mystery USB devices there (an Internet search reckoned it could be a power problem). I did notice though that under USB Devices section there was a mystery device that said "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed).

Called Dell Support who informed me that since it was purchased from a UK retailer I wasn't eligible for Dell support! So I called PC World...

They took me through a step which I'd already tried (uninstall & reinstall mystery USB devcie) but this time it worked - touchscreen appeared in HID section & mystery USB device vanished. Hung up the phone, moved laptop then the touchscreen failed again. This time, on loading Device Manager, it was unusable. Device Manager kept refreshing over & over again, but I did have time to see that again touchscreen had vanished from HID & the mystery USB (with same message) appeared in USB Devices. This time though the USB device would vanish & then the screen refresh.

A bit more Google searching revealed that a touchscreen is effectively a mini USB device & I wondered if the issue I was having was due to an intermittent connection. It would explain the constant refreshing of Device Manager since it was like something being connected & disconnected constantly.

A final recovery to factory settings & problem still persisted so I concluded it was a hardware issue.

As it was only 2 weeks old, I was offered a refund since no more stock & I'm now awaiting delivery of the new XPS 13 9360 from Dell.

I'm a bit concerned that this happened & curious if this is a common feature of touchscreens & if it was to happen again to my new model is there an easy fix (once out of warranty).

Hope the above helps somebody with a similar problem!

Aw 17r3 laptop arrived from dell outlet, Win 10 on slow hdd vs fast samsung 951 256gb in it already. Will dell correct it.I have premiere care for 360 days.

Aw 17r3 (6820hk, uhd display, 32gb ram, 980m 4gb, itb hdd, 256 gb samsung951 m2)  laptop just arrived from dell outlet, Win 10 is on slow hdd vs fast samsung 951 256gb already in it.  I specifically payed more to get the speed feature of os on fast drive.  I have and still own many alienware and dell products. First time I have been disappointed by performance, I am counting on them making it right - never had a problem before. AW has painfully slow load/boot speed - slower than 3 previous laptops.  Os should have been on fast drive.I have premiere care for 360 days. Will they correct it.suggestion: exchange my Samsung951 256 drive for one with os already on it. I have slow dsl speed so that solution would take forever.  dell please look at my registered devices, the quantity should show I am a fan. If anyone has done this before and has a step by step - let me know, in case I am left on my own.

Buzzing/Hissing noise

$

Hello,

I have new Dell XPS 15 9550 laptop. 4K monitor, i7-6700HQ, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD. The laptop is 1 month old. Once I received the unit I didn't have any kind of problems with it, but then I updated the drivers out of fear from the BSOD because many others had troubles with it. After the update problems arrived.

First it was screen flicker. It was driving me nuts. After reading a lot of forum posts, various articles on the internet, a combination of latest BIOS and Intel HD driver revision number 4331, did the trick. Flicker was not present anymore.

Then came the buzzing noise from the left bottom side of the laptop. Everything I tried to remove it failed. This was not present at the time laptop arrived. The power adapter was buzzing from the start but not the laptop. After some time the laptop also started buzzing. This is very annoying considering this is a 2k laptop.

Now the fan that is closer to the power outlet is also producing some scratching sound on lower RPM.

I must say that I am very dissapointed in the time invested in the proper testing of these devices. i tried using dell support, but 5 consequtive times dell's website gave me "Sorry, try again.". So, I can't file a report that I have a product that is not functioning as it should. My warranty was started 5 months before laptop even arrived at my place, and I am not sure how that happened, because it wasn't opened, it was properly sealed.

Can anyone please shed some light on this. I purchased my laptop in Germany, but I don't live there, so sending it back is very difficult, and not cost effective.
