E6400 Display very, very dim..close & open lid and it works....sometimes...

I have a used Dell E6400 I bought 1 year ago.  When I pack it up to take it to the library….I get there, power to the log in screen and the display is really, really dim.  I can just barely see it.  On many occasions I closed the lid and immediately reopened it sure enough it’s back to full bright.   

Failure of the lid sensor? I set the ALS to off in BIOS and changed the windows power settings to “do nothing” when the lid is shut.  Also in the advanced settings (Power Options) I made sure the “Enable adaptive brightness” is off and the dimmed display brightness is 100%.  It still did it. 

As long as I closed and re-opened the lid it came back on.  But for the past two days the screen would not come back on doing this.  I happen to close, open the lid then pull the power cord to go on AC power and it came right on!

I saw on a post it might be the inverter.  But wouldn’t that just fail outright?  What would opening and closing the lid have to do with that?

Any other ideas what’s wrong?  I may just replace the inverter if I can find one reasonably priced.

Hi All,

Does anyone know what the differences between 9350-4846 AND 9350-5132 are?

Both seem to be an entry level i5 6200U, non-touch scr laptop.

Pricing is somewhat the same, but I want to go for the better bargain out of the two.

XPS13 wont detect a specific wifi network, no problem with others

I've been connecting to my home network with no problem until 2 days ago. My home network suddenly disappeared from available networks, and my laptop won't detect it no matter what I try. My laptop sees other wifis at home and can connect, but not that specific network. I'm using my neighbor's wifi right now!!

My phone and other laptops see the home network and connect with no problem,so it's not the modem. I have updated wifi driver, disabled/enabled it, turn it on/off in bios.. didn't work.. No problem with office network during the day, but won't detect the home network..

Please, any suggestions? Need internet at home.

E7470 SCCM 2012 TS deployment issues

We are working to move our base OS to Windows 10.  I am able to image a Optiplex 7010 with no issues but having issue with Latitude 7470s.  I am able to PXE boot  to the Task Sequence list.  It kicks off fine, and the OS deploys without an issue.  The issues starts after the first reboot, the task sequence starts up again but fails once a Task Sequence needs network access.  We use Apply Driver Packages to deploy our drivers.  I have tried the Dell Drivers CAB package, the Intel drivers package, no driver package, and deploying all drivers.  Nothing has worked.  I have manually installed the drivers from the Dell Support page after failure and they apply fine.  I added those to the driver package but it still does not work.  I need to get this resolved ASAP.

I would like to take up a matter with Dell Australia or Dell International as Dell Australia do not have a Complaints Department.
I purchased a Dell Laptop Computer on line on believing Dell had a reputable name.(I have my three other computers also from Dell and haven't had a problem with them. They are operating as computers should. I purposely purchased a SSD computer as I believed that it would be superior to the HDD models. 
I gave this computer to my daughter who is studying International Baccalaureate this year. 
Not even a year has passed and the computer started to give trouble. We contacted Dell, who promptly sent a representative home to fix the problem. Now, I believe the person who arrived has been sub contracted by Dell and I believe he works for Fujitsu. Anyway, he wasn't able to resolve the issue with the computer and was requested by Dell in Sydney (so I was told) to send the computer to them via Post. 
In good faith, I believed that they would resolve the issue we faced. The computer had no outside damage or damage to the screen when it was posted. However, the technicians from Sydney, who I believed were Dell technicians, claimed that the computer was damaged and also sent pics re the same claiming that the computer was cracked when it arrived and they even sent pics of the same. 
Now, the technician who came to my residence, would have most definitely seen the damage and reported the same to his superiors but this was not the case. (By the way he is willing to verify the above.) 
My main concerns are:
Why are such incompetent persons employed by Dell Australia?
Why do they destroy property if they cannot resolve the issue they face with the product?
When and how will Dell Australia  or Dell (as I cannot find a contact for Dell Australia) resolve this?

Dell XPS 15 (9550): Replacing stock 256GB SSD with Samsung 950 Pro. Good idea?

Hi, I'm planning to buy the XPS 15 (9550) and have a couple of questions regarding upgrading the SSD that I'm hoping someone can help me with.  

My plan is to buy the XPS 15 with the 256GB SSD option and replace the stock SSD with a 512GB Samsung 950 Pro.  I'm hoping to get some feedback from others who have done this upgrade with respect to:

1. Will the Samsung 950 Pro work with the XPS 15 9550?

2.  If so, is the Samsung 950 Pro the best option for the XPS 15 9550?  Are there any compatibility issues, etc....?

3. Will I see noticeably faster results with the Samsung 950 pro vs the stock 256GB SSD in the XPS 15?

I've tried to do some research on this, but can't find anything that conclusively answers the questions I have.  If my plan in general is good, then I'll go ahead and buy the XPS.  I'm sure I can figure out the actual mechanics/steps involved with the upgrade later.

Hi my Dell I5laptop is nt getting charged.I had shown to 3repairs ing shops all said that motherboard issue.and they told there is no available ability of i 5 processor and they replace. With i 3 and without graphic card and at cost 13000/- as there is no availability of i 5 processor of dell .I live in vapi dist valsad gujarat india .plz help me to resolve the issue.

Chromebook 13 with touch screen - flickering/shifting screen

I've had this Chromebook for under a week, and today out of no where it the screen flickers nonstop.

If im doing something like watching a video, then the entire screen does it. What should i do? I have a warranty.

6 month old Dell Inspiron 7559 chassis coming apart from left side

My 6 month old Dell Inspiron 7559 has starting coming apart from around the left side hinge. The keyboard plate is being separated from the bottom chassis and can see inside. Dell support say its damage or wear and tear. Really!. The laptop has been at home and not moved beyond 5 feet for the last 6 months. There is NO damage and even a microscopic inspection will not reveal any damage. Wonder how UK support brushed me off even after sending photos and saying not covered by warranty. Had been a Dell customer for last 12 years and this is my 4th Dell and definitely the last one. Cannot stand a company like this

Hi, I am having a problem with a notebook dell studio 1535. when starting, get a mensje that says:
This computer system, # ******* - 595B, is protected by a password authentication system.
You can not access the data on this computer whithout the correct password. It would appear that the message is hard disk lock, but when connected to another computer
I can access my data, I mean that is not locked the disk. What would remain to be password bios, but because it comes off as service tag # ******* - 595b?
if the bottom cover of the notebook contained 4CMXWG1 Service Tag and express service code
9471256705. The error asterisks makes me think that the bios has a problem because no change
was made immediately before leaving this error. From one day to another failure and leaves no
longer start Windows. Anyone have any idea that might be happening? no way to flash or update the bios without either
from the application in Windows?

Bought a new laptop for my child and it is broken in less than 45 days.  The tech determined it is broken and motherboard needs to be replaced.  This laptop is used by child at school on a daily basis and they expect the child to be without a computer until this is fixed.  Apparently it is not their problem and they suggested "Don't you have another Device for child?"  The representative barely spoke English and they really don't care about their customers.  Upon insisting to talk to Supervisor, obviously the supervisor is always busy and cannot attend.  Waited for over 90 minutes to talk to supervisor who pretty much repeated the same thing.  

I understand things break.  How hard is it to provide a replacement?  The replacement supposed only works if it is within 30 days.  They have no intention to help and realistically don't care about customer.

Now I have to buy a new computer for the broken piece of ****?  Never buying a DELL AGAIN.  Horrible equipment followed by even worse customer service.  

For the reference, the supervisor's name is "Jericho A"  Not even sure if this is the right name (as this was provided with great reluctance by the agent)

I bought a refurbished Latitude E6320 about two months ago, and the system gave me a warning 2 days ago saying the battery is reaching its life cycle and It need to replace a new battery. After I tried to call and online chat with different dell departments for hours including chat with one very rude custom service person, I was finally told that they get a lot of similar complains, it is normal and I can not expect the battery better than that. Should the furbished laptop not be similar to the new one? introduction of this laptop on shop said the battery should last 4 to 6 hours when I made the purchase, my laptop is less than half of it.

This is not the first time there are issues with my dell laptops. but the warranty is just ridiculous for a laptop bought 2 months ago. This is the first refurbished computer that I ever bought, and I hope this should be the last laptop I would buy from dell.

Not sure if this is in the right forum but could someone from Dell Australia tell me if I can order an Inspiron 15 5000 online with Windows 7 Professional instead of Windows 10 Professional?The main software component I want to use may not be compatible with Windows 10 (which comes on the Inspiron)

Inspiron 5520 is crashed and not booting up with Windows 10

Hi Friends,

My Inspiron 5520 is not booting up with Windows 10. When starting it is showing Dell logo and it progresses.. I can see right bottom the options Like F2 SETUP,F12 BOOT OPTIONS.

But nothing happening after this..I am getting a black blue mix screen with cursor is blinking with circult (windows processing sign). If I kept on system - once in a whiel its blinks with / black screen nothing loading. Sometimes its showing a Square of blur colors in middle of the screen but doing nothing.


I have not manually upgraded from Win 8 to 10 - it was a recommendation from Dell online support. And ran a check whether my machine meet necessary pre-requisites to upgrade Win 10. After checking and passing only I agreed to upgrade to 10 and have been using this for last about 5 months without any issues.

It suddenly facing this issue - If I kept remain open the laptop though its not loading.. but seems backend processor is still running and trying load something but not coming up. Some time its showing blank screen, flickering with thinking circle with mouse icon shows and white background.

BTW the last working session was turned off by force shutdown. I am suspecting it might have crashed due to the force shutdown.

I Tried multiple times to check BIOS and F2 Setup or F12 with diagnosing but nothing worked.

I have successfully completed - Dell Pre-boot System Diagnostics without any issues - all tests passed but still its not booting. (I have disconnected all the connectors like hdmi, wireless mouse etc.). Problem not resolving.

I am totally stuck. My laptop's warranty period is over. I need your help.

Greetings.

I'm looking to upgrade / replace the original hard drive in my Studio XPS 1640.  I have decided on a 1TB Samsung SSD 850 Evo, but - without opening up my laptop an extra time - I don't know which format is compatible:  the 2.5" SATA III or the mSATA?  I'll greatly appreciate if someone can tell me which of these SSDs will work with my laptop.
