I am using Dell XPS model laptop. x64 bit version.

At the time when I brought it, it having windows vista installed. a few years back I installed windows 7 and it was working fine. I am an automobile technician dealing with the electronic control units of the vehicles. we use a custom hardware device to monitor  and tune up the engines. we used to monitor and record the details in this laptop.
last day one of our employ  upgraded this laptop computer to windows 10 (it was a clean installation ).
Now we are facing trouble connecting with our performance tuner with this laptop. In windows 7 it worked perfectly with this tuner. We have another desktop PC from HP running on windows 10 and while connecting through usb port that PC is detecting this hardware.
We are only facing this issue on this laptop. Kindly help us to resolve this issue as it's affecting our work.
Thank you very much

Will Opening my Dell XPS 13 Void my Warranty?

Just earlier, my Dell XPS 13 went comatose on me. I pressed the power button, held it down, and nothing happened. Usually, if my laptop dies on me, I could press the power button and be shown the BIOS screen, but like I said, nothing's happening at all, no matter how many times I press or hold the power button. I've tried two Dell XPS 13 chargers (both work perfectly with my friend's Dell XPS 13), and both will lose the LED light whenever plugged into my laptop.

I've checked many sources online, and people say it's either a bad motherboard or I need to open my laptop, unplug the battery, drain it, and plug it back in. Before using my warranty, I'd like to try the second trick.

My question is: Will opening my Dell XPS 13 void my warranty?

Windows not booting.

I have been getting an error on startup.

                                                     Windows Boot Manager

Windows Failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the
cause. To fix the problem:

1. Insert your Windows installation disc and restart your computer.

2. Choose your language settings, and then click "Next."

3. Click "Repair your computer."

If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer
manufactor for assistance.

Status: 0xc000000e

Info:  The boot selection failed because a required device is
inaccessible.

I have tapped F8 and tried safe mode same thing happens. I have tried startup repair same thing happens. Last thing I did was Windows Update. Going to repair your computer on F8 boot options goes back to same error. I do not have my Dell recovery DVD. I have contacted support on this issue and they seem to be giving me the run around. They have sent this disk before but it was lost when I moved. I seem to have found all other disk but not the OS disk. I see Dell has the option to download the recovery ISO now I did that with my fathers Windows 7 Pro laptop we purchased this year. Laptop has been slow for awhile that issue never was really resolved. I have chatted with support and they say the ISO is not available for download for my model. I wish I knew why they will not tell me why and it seems now they are ignoring me. I try to get on chat at night around 8 PM EST I get a message Chat is Closed. I was told the Chat Hours is 10 am -10 pm CST that would be 11am-11pm my time. I asked why I was not able to get on chat support and they will not give me an answer I gave them my number after they asked and I haven't gotten a call. I wish I was able to get the recovery so I could fix the issue. I bet they will not send it again they should understand sometimes things get lost. I do not know what to do at this point I do need to get some documents off the hard drive before I reformat it. I may remove the drive and connect it as external to my desktop. Maybe someone will know of a way to fix this problem and I can get it booted. I do have a Windows Repair CD I made but it was made on an HP desktop and it goes to HP Cyberlink screen when I boot to it so it's been tagged to only work with an HP.

BSOD -- 1000007e

Hello, I have been having BSOD issues with my Inspiron 5759, Windows 7 Professional, with all latest MS updates. I ran a Bluescreen Analysis test in Dell website and it found critical errors. It wanted me to run a Bluescreen Troubleshooting. I clicked on the link but nothing happened. Called Dell and they asked me to buy a Software Warranty for $149! I didn't want to do that unless I know for sure it's a software issues. Does anyone know why I couldn't run the Bluescreen Troubleshooting link? Attached is also my BSOD zip file. Any suggestions or comments will be much appreciated. Thank you.

xps 13 battery maximization

I just bought a new-ish Dell XPS 13 2015 model on ebay
It is reading a 15 hr battery life (great!) once charged.
I would like the forum's advice on how to maximize the battery life of the unit, and also to get it set up for best user experience.

1) I was told it's better if I don't have battery charge to 100% but rather to cap the max charge to 90%. Does anyone know how to do so? Is there a third party software I should install? I don't see a way to use the control panel settings to limit the charge to 90%.

2) the laptop does not seem to go into sleep mode when the lid is closed. What settings should I check? Such an issue causes the laptop to lose full charge when I pack it away in a hurry to carry and go.

3) Is there anything else I can do to maximize battery life? Is there any smart 3rd party software to give me more working hours? Any settings I should pick other than dimming the screen? Is there a way I can turn off the backlit keyboard to save energy?

4) The Dell ships with Win 8. I don't like Win 8.. Can I install Win 7 and if I did, would I lose out on battery life? I saw that installing Win 10 has a lot of problems, and that Win 7 install seems to have BIOS issues, according to the forums. Or alternatively, if I keep Win 8 is there a way I can get rid of those *** tiles and make the OS at least look and feel like Win 7?

Inspiron 17 5759 - Double Click not always working

Even in safemode I have this problem. Sometimes when I double click on things nothing happens.

In safemode with just Firefox, Winscp and notepad ++ running I am having the problem.

The problem is not the double click speed setting, I tried that. It happens both with a wired mouse connected or by using the click button on the touch pad.

I have the touch pad disabled for double click because it doesn't work well.

Do you know what the problem might be?

Insert another SSD in XPS15 9550?

Hi All,

I have a XPS15 9550 laptop (with the 1TB SSD option)  The SSD is installed in the conventional storage bay.   I ran the intel rapid storage app and it implies there is another SSD bay inside, but currently empty.

Here's a screen grab.  I think the empty internal port is for a mini SSD 'stick' type hard drive.  I think it's an "M.2" type slot but I'm not sure.   Would one of these fit?

XPS 13 9350 wont shut down.

Hi there,

so  i was wondering why my dell is always out of battery, and i found out that he wont shut down.

The Laptop always restarts upon shutdown.

So i googeled and tryed:

- Installing BIOS Version: 1.3.3 and the latest one.

- Turning the hibernation to 0

- Holding the Power Button down for a while.

I changed the PowerButton function to: Shut Do  as well.

I do have Windows 10 64 Bit and am currently running the 1.3.3 Bios.

but nothing worked...

so can anyone here maybe help me?

Greetings and thanks for the help!

Dell XPS M120 Processor Upgrade

Hi folks!

I've got a Dell XPS M120 with the Intel T2300E processor (1.6 GHz).

Because it got slower over the years I decided to upgrade a few things. I upgraded the RAM which now consists of two 2GB units. Next I bought an SSD. Finally I wanted more processing power so I boughte the Intel T400 (2.16 GHz) which should be compatible.

I dismounted the whole laptop and installed the new processor, making sure I added enough thermal paste. I reassembled it and after turning it on, the following happened:

Pressed the power button. The lights go on for about 2 seconds, and then it shuts off again. The display remained off and the CPU-fan doesn't even start spinning.

I thought that it could be that the BIOS needet to be updated so I re-installed the old processor. Sadly, the same thing happened.

Dear forum, please advise me what to do. I'm desparate. What could it be? Did I break the whole thing? Isn't there enough power (my battery's busted so I keep it plugged in to the wall)? Is the motherboard damaged? Or maybe the socket?

I love this laptop so much and I would love to see run with an SSD, more RAM and more processing power.

Thank you very much in advance!

Latitude 3160 dual drive - SATA SSD and M2 SSD together

Hello,

Can a Latitude 3160 run both a SATA SSD and a M2 SSD at the same time? Can I mix boot them into different OSes?

Also, do you know what form factor (i.e., length) of M2 SSD card is required? A part number would be helpful too.

Much thanks

Touchpad jumpy after windows 10 update

$

Hi,

I have an Inspiron 15-7569. My touchpad was working fine then after the most recent Windows update, the touchpad has become so oversensitive that it clicks and erases what I'm typing, especially on Microsoft Word. I tried adjusting the touchpad settings but the only thing that seemed relevant was turning the "tapping" off -- it helped, but it's still not enough.

Anyone have suggestions? I don't remember having this problem before the most recent Windows 10 update.

Noisy cooling fan. Replacement did not help. Where is the problem?

Hi there,

From the moment I bought Dell Inspirion N5-7359-N2-02, The cooling fun is noisy in a way like if it is brushing against casing or something. I thought it is in the fan itself, but the replacement did not solve the problem.

Here is a recording of the sound it makes. It is not as it is supposed to be, right?

Sound recording stored on my OneDrive: 1drv.ms/.../s!AiBpHFT35pZQlOtWfoE5ecv0e8bbCg

Do you have any suggestion how to make it stop being so loud?

Thanks a lot!

Dell Inspiron 14R 5420 - new keyboard not working

$

Hello

One key of the keyboard of my laptop wasn't working,. I verified it was a problem on the keyboard itself, so I bought a new one. I have removed my keyboard before, so I figured it wasn't an issue. So I installed the new one, everything ok. Then I turned my laptop off and I saw the keyboard was unaligned, so i moved it a little bit. Now both old keyboard and new don't work. The connector seems to be fine, but I'm not an technician. I have already tried to reinstall the driver, but they still don't work.

Any ideas?

Thank you for you time.

Precision 7510 with Iris Pro P580 (Xeon E3-1545M) and also AMD FirePro™ W5170M

$

These two graphics systems have approximately the same performance (~1200 gflops)

I was told by Dell support via chat that it is not possible to get a Precision 7510 without the discrete graphics card. That seems silly since the Iris Pro P580 provides the same performance. So two questions:

1. Is it indeed the case that a Precision 7510 cannot be purchased without a discrete graphics card?

2. If I am forced to buy this FirePro, can I at least use it in conjunction with the P580 - each driving separate displays?

Thanks,

Chris
